This name makes me cringe a bit...

My cousin just gave birth on Monday to a beautiful little girl. But the name is less than stellar.

On her facebook she was always saying i cant wait to meet

 Ashiah Summer.

So i asked her mom the pronunciation. she said Ay-Shy-Ah. & it is greek for sunshine. (We are not greek) To me it looks like it should be Asia. but sorry cuz I dont like your choice of name!

    Erm.. her mother was wrong.

     The name Ashiah was not found.

    The closest varient I could find is Arabic ('Aisha)

    GENDER: Feminine
    USAGE: Arabic
    OTHER SCRIPTS: ????? (Arabic)

    Means "alive" in Arabic. This was the name of Muhammad's third wife, the daughter of Abu Bakr. After Muhammad's death she went to war against Ali, the fourth caliph, but was defeated.

    I need to confirm with my Greek friends, but I think the phonetic spelling of sunshine in Greek is Liakada.

    I would have pronounced it Ash-e-uh. Not pretty at all! Summer is a cute name though.

    I'd have pronounced it "correctly," but I still don't like it. It sounds like a faraway land in a fantasy series or something. I imagine Ashiah is known for its powerful sorceresses and unicorns.

    ZOMG DITTO! My MIL says she named my SIL "Rachel" because "It means strength." Ummm... no. It means "ewe."
