I was prescribed flagyl today for bacterial vagnosis and I'm currently at 13 weeks and 5
days, I'm really worried about taking it. Does anyone else have BV or
had to take flagyl? I'm really scared to take it because I've read so
many horror stories online and I'm afraid that it might affect the baby
especially when we've tried 4 years to get pregnant every little thing
is worrying me and now this. Anyone else have any experience with this?
Re: Prescribed flagyl for BV?
I had to take it about 3 weeks ago. I heard it works a lot better then the cream so I was ok taking it. The only side effect I had was it gave me oral thrush. Make sure to start taking probiotics while you are on it....it's totally safe to take. Also, eat as much PLAIN yogurt as possible while taking antibiotics.
I was very scared to take it too but the BV needs to get cleared up. In fact I think I might have it again so i am calling the dr today to get more meds. Good luck.
I have taken it twice in this pregnancy and once in my last pregnancy. It's a category B so it's fine to take. There really is no other medication for BV that you can take.
Having the infection is worse than the treatment because the infection can cause preterm labor and other complications. You will be fine on it!
This! I just went to the dr yesterday and got prescribed it. I was told since I was already having cramps, that preterm labor could be the next progression. She had to check my cervix and make sure it was still closed. I think NOT taking the drug is way more scary than taking it!
Definitely take it, BV can cause preterm labor. I had BV around 29 weeks with my last pregnancy. At first they gave me Flagyl cream that you insert vaginally. I took one dose and the nurse called me and told me to stop using the cream. The doctor wrote me another prescription for a pill version of Flagyl which she must have thought was safer for pregnancy. I had no side-effects from taking it.
