It was a rough morning. Poor Bailey had to be held down by me and 2 nurses while the doctor got the wax out of his ears, pull the tubes out that were laying in his ear chanel plus suction one of his ears. It was horrible! Since Bailey has a speech delay the ENT is going to put the tubes back in (B's has already had one ear infection and his left ear today had fluid in it) plus take out the adenoids.
Has anyone's child had their adenoids removed? The sheet they gave me said no vigorous activity (gym, pe etc) for 72 hours and he may return to school after 3 days. That he will probably be on liquids, soft, cold foods for a few days. It also says he might run low grade fevers for a few days afterwards and we can only use tylenol for 2 weeks after surgery. Sounds more intense then his previous ear tubes surgery and we leave for hilton head on thursday after his surgery which is on a monday. Is this all normal for adenoid surgery?
Re: Bailey is getting 2nd set of tubes plus adenoids out
I had my adenoids taken out around 7 or 8. It's pretty equivalent in care to getting your tonsils out. Soft foods and the whole nine yards.
Good luck!
Ethan got his adenoids removed when he got his first set of tubes. He was almost 2 years old so they decided to take them out. He was a pretty decent mouth breather before and this helped his breathing at night a lot. For us, it wasn't bad at all. He was playing and acting normal by that afternoon after sleeping it off. I think it is probably something where the older you are it is worse. I had a Pre-K student last year that got her tonsils out and poor thing was out of school for 2 weeks and then still had trouble when she returned (talking and eating). Hopefully it should not be anything like that for y'all. Sorry you are dealing with all of this. Ethan already has one tube sitting in the canal. It didn't even last 6 months. I have a feeling we will be getting them replaced this winter but am really hoping not.
