Growth Spurt?

FTM.. So I'm not sure what to expect.. But I think LO may be going through a growth spurt. She has been nursing more, is increasingly cranky before bed, and has been crying out to be held (which is new as I hold her most of the day as it is). I'm not complaining by any means, just curious to know if this sounds like a growth spurt?

Re: Growth Spurt?

  • Sounds like she's amping up for one! You might already know this, but I feel it's worth mentioning for others' benefits: Baby will nurse a lot in preparation for a growth spurt. They nurse to get your supply up, not because they need more *yet.* In other words, don't supplement. This is baby's way of preparing for an incoming increased need.

  • my LO has been experiencing the same symptoms, save for the crying out to be held. though i'm not sure he's old enough to be having a growth spurt already.

i'm curious to see what others say though.

  • Babies tend to go thru growth spurts around 10 days, 2-3 weeks, 4-6 weeks, 3 months, 4 months, 6 months and 9 months. Like pp said just keep nursing her. It will probably only last a few days.
  • My lactation consultant said that they go through a growth spurt between 2 and 4 weeks.  My LO is only 1w1d and I feel like she could be hitting that spurt early because she's been nursing much longer as well.  I'm also a FTM so I don't know for sure, just going off what I was told.

  • DS was like that 1-2 days every 3 weeks.  Like clockwork, he was predictable with his spurts. So it is very much possible.

  • Brooklyn is the exact age my DD went through a growth spurt.  She would cry all evening unless she was nursing and was nursing every 45 min to an hour for 5 hours.  It was exhausting but it only lasted 2 days.  Now I can say my supply is up! Just keep feeding her and you will get past it!
