DD feels warm to the touch and is acting pretty irritable this evening. I took her temp underarm and it was 98.9. Im wondering if Im supposed to add the 1 degree in which case it would be 99.8 which feels a litle high tome. Am I overreacting??

Re: Question About Temp Taking and Fevers....
Technically, your baby isn't running a fever until they hit 100.4 So, while it might seem high, your DD could just be a little warm. Have you ever taken her temp before? My DD actually runs a little higher than most on a normal day. My DS is the same way.
I personally always take an infants temp rectally, because it's the most accurate. I prefer this thermometer too. Makes the whole process quick and easy. I was always WAY off when I took it underarm and never felt I could rely on that number. If you are brave (and I say that because it seems scary at first, but it's really not after awhile) take a rectal and see what you get.
My pedi's office uses a temporal thermometer and we use it now for my DS.

I bought a pacifier thermometer and although it didn't work when I bought it. It had the following fever chart :
Rectal : 100.4
Ear 99.6
Underarm 98.6
Oral 99.6
I also have one of those forehead/ear instant thermometers and its not that shabby. I take 3 temperatures to decide if LO has a fever. Both ears and a spot on his head. So far, i've had problems taking underarm temps with a normal thermometer and I don't do rectal unless I am really worried about his temp.
