PT'ing regression?

DS did awesome with PT for the first few weeks.  No accidents from day 2 on.  Starting last week, he started to pee in his pants all the time.  He does go when we bring him to the potty, but he will not go on his own anymore and he won't tell us when he has to go.  It's almost like the novelty wore off and he doesn't feel like interrupting play to go.  If we bring him every half hour to an hour, he does okay, but if not, he just goes in his underwear and doesn't care.  Does this fix itself or do I have to start from square 1 again.

Re: PT'ing regression?

  • Oh no! I had followed your previous posts about PTing your DS and I was so happy he was doing well so quickly! (You gave me hope for DS, who we want to start soon).

I'm sure they have regressions and he will get back on track soon. Just be consistent. GL! :)

  • We went through this during this week.  However, with my DS, it was like he was doing it on purpose just to get a reaction from me.  He would scream and yell if I wanted to put him on the potty and he would just pee on the floor.  Today, I started out the day by not making a big deal at all when he had an accident.  Then I told him he couldn't watch Sesame Street (which he loves) until I saw pee pee in the potty.  He's been doing pretty well today since then.  I think that if you stick with taking him on a regular schedule he'll get tired of you always interrupting him and he will start to go on his own.
  • I kept reminding him that it takes longer to change his clothes and clean up then it does to use the potty.  I also brought back the M&Ms.

  • I'm starting to notice this with our DS as well and not sure how to fix.  They say that if you "make" a child sit on the potty when they don't want to that they regress--but if I don't make him (even if he's screaming to not go)---he ends up peeing on the potty.  I monitor what he drinks at home and know when he needs to go--but like you said, it's like playtime is more important.  Ugh.

Not sure how to fix--def interested in others responses.

  • We brought back the rewards, which we had phased out and that seemed to help. crossing my fingers
