Anyone's LO have them? DD has been waking up screaming unconsolably the past 3 nights in a row. Last night it was 3 times and it was pretty bad. It was like she was having a temper tantrum in her sleep. She was fighting us, screaming bloody murder, wouldn't let us hold her or rock her. It seemed like she was in pain the way she was writhing around. Had she not fallen back asleep, we were considering bringing her to the ER. DH and I brought her to the pedi today. He listened to what has been going on and said he thinks DD is having night terrors. He said not to touch her or try to wake her as that will make things worse. He also told us to give her some Benadryl before she goes to bed as this may make her drowsy enough to sleep through the REM phase where she would have the terrors. Please tell me that it gets better or goes away soon. It is truly frightening to watch, and especially tonight if I have to watch her thrash and scream without being able to hold her, it's going to tug hard on the mommy strings!
Re: NFAR: Night terrors
DS #1 had terrors a lot when he was younger. Now he has them rarely but DS#3 has started to have them too.
I just sit on the floor next to the bed and make sure they don't hurt themselves. I don't touch them but sometimes I will whisper "mama's here, it's ok" between screams. It's so weird because one second they just look right through you like you aren't even there and the next they suddenly "see" you and reach out for a hug. My guys always go right back to sleep afterwards and don't remember anything.
My twins are 5! My baby is 3!
