s/o Keeping your kids clothes...

Have you kept most of your little one's clothes?

Did you only keep "special outfits?"

Did you sell clothes?  Give them away?

If you are keeping them, are you keeping them for the next child you might have?

Did you get hand me downs?  Do you pass those on?

Re: s/o Keeping your kids clothes...

  • With Crash, I started giving stuff away when I found out B was a girl.  I mostly gave stuff away.  Sold some shoes.  I did keep a few special outfits.

With B, I gave some newborn stuff to a friend, but got most of it back.  I have not passed on any more of her stuff, but have gotten a few requests for her clothes.

I just recently started saving Crash's stuff just in case we try for a third.  My Mom is telling me to get rid of it because "stuff will go out of style in a few years. "  Cracks me up.  I just think she likes to shop. :)

I did not get any hand me downs.

  • Have you kept most of your little one's clothes? So far we've kept almost everything.

Did you only keep "special outfits?"

Did you sell clothes?  Give them away? Some clothes were donated, there were some outfits that we were given (hand me downs and gifts) that we just didn't like and I didn't really see any reason to keep those. I didn't realize we had a couple of local baby consignment shops, so I just took them to goodwill.

If you are keeping them, are you keeping them for the next child you might have? I think we'll hold on to most of it until we are sure we are done having children. I'd hate to get rid of all of his stuff if we end up having another boy. There are several thing that I don't plan on getting rid of though, the pieces that hold sentimental value.

Did you get hand me downs?  Do you pass those on? If I didn't like them they were passed on. My friend sent me two large boxes of her sons clothes and not everything was usable. I knew she wouldn't be having any more children so rather than giving them back they were donated.

  • Have you kept most of your little one's clothes?Obviously not - by my post Did you only keep "special outfits?"I thought I did - I had 2 outfits that my mom bought for B, I cannot find either of them, which rips my heart out. Did you sell clothes?  Give them away?Gave them away. If you are keeping them, are you keeping them for the next child you might have?I kept from 12 months upDid you get hand me downs?  Do you pass those on?I got a ton of hand me downs from people, they were among the ones we gave away.
  • Have you kept most of your little one's clothes? No. I kept all of DS#1s clothes because we hoped we'd be having a second LO, but once DS#2 outgrows them they are gone.

Did you only keep "special outfits?" Yes, but my definition of special may not be the same as others. I kept coming home outfits, anything handmade, and the outfits I thought looked the cutest on my boys/I remember them wearing most often.

Did you sell clothes? Give them away? Gave away to friends. Have 2 friends and a cousin with boys younger than mine. My cousin's son is exactly 1 year younger so he's getting everything now since the season's line up so well (not so much for the other too).

If you are keeping them, are you keeping them for the next child you might have? I did, but we're done now.

Did you get hand me downs? Do you pass those on? Yes, a good friend was one and done with a son one year older then DS#1. She gave us a TON and didn't want anything back. I've passed it all along.

  • Have you kept most of your little one's clothes?  About 70% of his stuff is in the garage.Did you only keep "special outfits?" No, but those are in a special bin so that if and when I ditch the every day clothes for whatever reason, I won't lose my favorites.Did you sell clothes?  I sold one batch. Give them away? I gave away a few batches. If you are keeping them, are you keeping them for the next child you might have?  Maybe.  Some of it is just too sentimental to not keep.  And some of it was on the off chance we have another.  It's crazy unlikely that we'd have another child AND that it would be a boy of C's size but whatever.  Baby clothes hording isn't logical.Did you get hand me downs?  I think I got 5 pieces total in the hand me down department.  DS has a bunch of cousins but each older boy cousin had a younger brother so not much came our way. Do you pass those on? Some of it.  We didn't get a ton so there wasn't much to pass on.  The people I would normally pass on to were DS' cousins but they were the same age as him in the same season so by the time it was ready, the other kids were too big.I don't pass on stuff that I expect to get back.
  • With Darrian we bought everything new, and pretty name brand. I passed most of it to a nestie, except for special outfits. With the twins.. 90% of what they wear are hand me downs. The nestie I gave Ds clothes to gave them back (that was awesome), I bought some hand me downs and we were given a ton. We purchase special outfits otherwise its all hand me down. Thank goodness because we would have been in a world of hurt. I have passed on the 0-3 month stuff to another Mom who has since passed them again. It's nice to see they are getting used. I am on the lookout to purchase more hand me downs for the 12 and up batch.
  • I feel so spoiled at this point by the fact that my best friend has 9 month old twin boys, her MIL works in (and gets the discount at) a department store, and loves to shop, and she doesn't care to hold onto much.  So much of their stuff has already been passed down to us - as gender neutral as possible so far though.  If this baby is a boy, we'll be set for a long time.  If this baby is a girl, we have some shopping to do ;)

Have you kept most of your little one's clothes? With Cooper's stuff...I kept EVERYTHING! I just couldnt part with anything. I have not had to buy Collin hardly anything! Just a few new things..just so the kid has something new!

Did you only keep "special outfits?" See above

Did you sell clothes?  Give them away?See above

If you are keeping them, are you keeping them for the next child you might have? I did keep for the next child. When Collin was born (same season) if worked out great! My kids have tons of clothes...

Did you get hand me downs?  Do you pass those on? I was VERY lucky to have recieved lots of hand me downs. Cooper has two slightly older boy cousins. So it works great. Now when Collin grows out of stuff....I keep the ones that are in excellent condition and donate the ones that have been worn by 2+ kids. Anything with major stains are trashed.

  • Have you kept most of your little one's clothes?  I have kept all the ones that I think I might want a second son to wear.  I have given away some others.

Did you only keep "special outfits?"  Eventually, when I get rid of the whole lot, I think I do plan to keep a few outfits, but I'll try not to keep many - cause what would anyone do with them 20 years from now!  ;)  But then again, will I be able to part with them!!

Did you sell clothes?  Give them away?  Considering that most of the clothes we have are hand-me-downs, gifts or generally inexpensive clothes, I will/have given them away.

If you are keeping them, are you keeping them for the next child you might have?  Yup!

Did you get hand me downs?  Do you pass those on?  We have been SO LUCKY to get hand-me-downs!  (Thank you S!!).  I have saved some of those (for possible #2), but will pass them along when I'm done.

Have you kept most of your little one's clothes? Not really. I knew we were a good 5+ years before having another so felt like that was a big enough gap to not keep. Felt better for DD's stuff to get some use.

Did you only keep "special outfits?" I kept her coming home outfit and that was about it.

Did you sell clothes?  Give them away? Baby clothes, I gave away. I have a really hard time selling stuff... I'd rather stuff just get used vs. sitting in my house collecting dust. Recently I posted some of her more expensive 18mo+ clothes because some of them are in really good condition.

If you are keeping them, are you keeping them for the next child you might have? No, I don't expect the clothes to come back. I just ask that if they are still in good condition they get passed along if possible.

Did you get hand me downs?  Do you pass those on? TONS. A ridiculous amount from SIL (our girls are exactly two years apart - so it worked out for awhile that she had clothes in every size we needed!) SIL asked that I keep them for awhile... Once we completely outgrew a size I would ask if she wanted that batch back... most of the time one of us had someone to pass it along to, so we did.

  • Have you kept most of your little one's clothes? I kept so much!!

Did you only keep "special outfits?" I didn't discriminate...it basically is every special outfit, every outfit that I thought they looked cutest in, and then some. ;)

Did you sell clothes?  Give them away? I gave some away for others to pass on or do what they wanted with.

If you are keeping them, are you keeping them for the next child you might have? I kept mine mostly to turn into a quilt later, but some of those outfits have also gone to others.

Did you get hand me downs?  Do you pass those on? We didn't get any hand-me-downs since we were the first in our immediate circle of friends to have kids.

Have you kept most of your little one's clothes? No.

Did you only keep "special outfits?" Yes- I have been SO tempted to keep a lot, but I only have one or two itty bitty special outfits.

Did you sell clothes?  Give them away?  For the most part I give them away, but I sell some of the nicer pieces.

If you are keeping them, are you keeping them for the next child you might have? N/A

Did you get hand me downs?  Do you pass those on? Yes- I LOVE hand-me-downs.  I am a big believer in saving money for things that matter more- like massages, trips, GNOs.  ;)  Wow- I sound like I don't care about my kids clothes.  I do buy some things, but I try to be kind to the environment and recycle clothes.

  • Have you kept most of your little one's clothes?I have kept almost everything except for a few things that she never wore and that baby #2 will probably never wear. We don't know what gender our next one will be, and we have plenty of space to store them. Or if we adopt later on, what we will have. Did you only keep "special outfits?"I will keep a couple special outfits for ever. I will give these to her when she has children. I have some from my mom from when I was a baby and it was fun to dress her in them.  Did you sell clothes?  Give them away?I will most likely just give them to friends or to someone in need if I have no pregnant friends. If I know someone who is planning on getting pregnant i the future, I may save for her to look at. I also loan them to friends, because I have good friends who return :-) If you are keeping them, are you keeping them for the next child you might have?Yup. Did you get hand me downs?  Do you pass those on?I have bought very few clothes, and none of the ones I bought did I 'need' they were just cute and fun. I probably have until she is 2+ covered. Love me my hand me downs.
