I think he's going to eat nothing but cheerios for the rest of his life.

Sad  I'm feeling frustrated.  I think I'm going to take a break from trying to give him anything else for a while for my own sanity.  Today he started gagging when I put pears on his tray.  He didn't have them in his mouth.

  • Yup DS2 was this way, he wouldn't put anything in his mouth, he would look at the food on his tray and then look at me like, "What am I supposed to do with that?" I would have to hand feed him the cheerios. And then he would gag on those. Well after about a month of doing that I just stopped, and he eventually figured it out, I still have to cut everything into the tiniest pieces for him cause he gags really bad.

You should see him eat now, sometimes I wonder if he ever fills up his empty leg!

  • DS was also like that. It just took time. At 10 months, he was still struggling. I kept trying but didn't force it and tried not to show my frustration b/c that made him upset too. Instead, we did lots of over-the-top celebrating every time he got a piece into his mouth or picked one up (but not when the food was on his way to his mouth b/c that just distracted him). That really helped. He finally got it it at just over 10 months. It was like one day the light just went off.

Don't worry. He'll get there. I know it's tough to see your other LOs eating and one not, but he'll make it.

  • My little guy tyson had the same issue when we started solids. He would gag a TON and then if he did get something down he would throw it all back up.  We just offered him a ton of different foods and the bottle.  By about 11 months old he all of a sudden loved grilled cheese, and then other foods followed.  He is a monster of an eater now.  Do not worry...just do cheerios and puffs for now and the rest will come!

Oh my!  :(  Just wanted to say I'm sorry he's making it hard on you.  Not fair!

  • I think it was the 9-10 month mark that I could've sworn that I was going to have to serve cheerios and puffs at Alex's wedding,

Provided of course that there were a girl out there who was willing to marry a man who only ate cheerios.

Like everyone else said, he'll get there when he gets there.... so frustrating, but apparently this, like everything else, is just a phase.

    Big hugs for mama though!

  • Thanks for posting this!  My two are in the same boat right now and I was getting really discouraged that they would be living on puree's and puffs.  Hopefully they will get it soon!

Thank you.  This is how I feel.  He can not live on Cheerios alone....I think. Maybe he will prove me wrong.  Oh wait, he likes mum mums too...

  • I really struggled with solids in E.   He would only eat pear purees and avocados until 11 months old.   I was freaking out, but then someone on this board reminded me that solids are only practice up until 1 years old.  So I would just take it slow and let your LOs take the lead.  GL
