Multiples

Freaking out at 32 weeks ~Long Sorry

So I knew that with multiples things could happen earlier however I am starting to freak a little after the events that have happened this week. Looking for a little cheering up!

Tue: Went in for first NST. I was having BH for 2 weeks and THOUGHT I was dealing with them just fine. Well the nurse says "Do you feel all those contractions?" "Yeah just thougth that was the BH...why?" Well I got admitted to L&D for PTL and they had to give me fluids and some rounds of Trubutaline(sp) to stop the contractions. They slowed down, no dialation, so I went home late that night.

WED: Stayed home to rest and they were coming every 10 minutes so she started me on Procardia. I feel terrible becasue they also started me on a UTI med (Like it's easy to get a clean catch urine hooked up to 3 montors and an IV) but just incase it's a true UTI I am taking the meds. So all together I take: Prevacid twice a day, Procardia 3times, UTI med twice, Baby Aspirin, Prenatal, Iron (for anemia) and Colace. I feel like I am totally drugging my kids up!

Tell me things WILL calm down?

Re: Freaking out at 32 weeks ~Long Sorry

  • By about the middle of my pregnancy I had one of those M-F pill holders I was taking so many pills!  Sorry you are going through all of this!  I did have a similar experience at like 28 weeks, and I made it to 35 ( was not because of contractions).  What my Dr. said was that your uterus feels like it is 9 months pregnant, so it's instinct is to contract.  As long as they are not causing changes in your cervix, you should be fine!

Random question: Was Dr. Barsoom your MFM?

  • i take zofran twice/day, extra strength zantac twice/day, iron twice/day, sometimes i take a tylenol or zyrtec (diff problems on diff days, lol) and i pop rolaids like candy. whenever we have an u/s i always tell my H - oh good, they don't look like a zofran or zantac pill!

i have the same feelings sometimes, but then i figure my doctor knows about *everything* i'm taking, so as long as he is OK with it am am too.

i hope those contractions get under control soon, feel better!

  • Hopefully it will be ok.  You have made it very far and done a great job.  I went into PTL at 30 weeks. Admitted to the hospital and didn't even know I was contracting.  They sent me by ambulance to a hospital with a nicu.  I was scared sh1tless!! They monitored me and kept me there 3 days.  Lots of meds etc.  Finally they sent me home, I rested a lot, and delivered my healthy babies at 37.5 weeks.  The doctors will do everything they can to keep you and those babies safe.  Good Luck!

Yes! So glad we see him! I think he is so laid back when we talk I feel more calm after we meet with him. I take it that's who you saw too???

I saw Dr. Katherine Foley at the Methodist Women's Hospital for my IUGR threat at 34.5. Dr. Barsoom couldn't see me with such short notice. She was awesome too.

Anyways, it's great to hear they are monitoring you so closely.  I know it's all scary, but you're doing everything you can to keep those babies cooking.

It sounds like you've already gotten the Bergan tour, but we were planning to deliver there and toured their NICU.  It was beautiful!  They had premie twins the same day as us, and since we couldn't wait, I ended up at Methodist Women's.  The NICU there was fantastic too.  Great food, lovely staff.

    Good luck!

  • So sorry you're going through this & that sucks they've got you on so many meds. You've done a great job and made it to 32 weeks, that's huge! And it sounds like your cervix isn't changing so that's great as well.

I've been having contractions since 22 weeks. At 26 weeks they started changing my cervix. I'm not on any meds and still contract everyday - they are changing my cervix (2cm dilated now) but VERY slowly.  I can't tell you things will calm down, but I can tell you that you can still keep those babies cooking for many more weeks.

Take it easy, listen to your body & try to relax (I know easier said than done).

Yep, he was pretty awesome.  I loved getting ultrasounds at his office on the big flat screen tv!  I guessed that he is your MFM because I see that you are taking baby asprin, did he tell you to take that?  He is the one that suggested I take it...

Did you know that Bergan recently remodeled their NICU?  It just opened this year, and is now individual rooms.  When I went on my tour last October it wasn't quite finished yet, but it had been done for a while when my girls were born.  I loved the privacy of having their own room!  It is pretty amazing...

  • I actually work at Bergan and the remodel is BEAUTIFUL! Since I work for Alegent I will deliver at Bergan and I love the NICU ladies and the L&D staff.

Yes Barsoom started me on the ASA the first visit I saw him. DH LOVES the big screens.

I think everything has been so "easy" this pregnancy that now that things were kind of going down hill I am getting scared. I just want happy healthy babies. After everything we have been through with IF I will take whatever they throw at me but I want things to be easy on my kiddos.

  • So sorry to hear that but hopefully things will calm down a bit and you can keep those little ones cookin' a little longer!

FWIW, I went to a regular OB appt at 31 weeks and was having contractions 7 min apart, was 2 cm dilated and 50% effaced so my OB sent me to the hospital.  I was given a terbutaline shot, then procardia twice and nothing was stopping the contractions so I ended up on IV Mag for 18 days!!!! It was hell, they tried turning it down 3 times and contractions always picked right back up, so their goal was to get me to 34 weeks and turn it off.  Thankfully I finally made it to the goal date, they turned it off and now have me taking Procardia every 4 hours and go figure NOTHING is happening.  I go off the Procardia tonight as I am now 36 weeks and my OB says at this point she won't try to stop labor. So I am just sittng and WAITING and have this gut feeling that these boys are going to hold out until their induction date which is 2 weeks from tomorrow, yikes!

Also I totally understand how you feel about drugging the babies up after being on Mag, and at times having to take terbutaline and/or procardia on top of that medicine to keep from having contractions, plus Pepsid twice daily, colace and tums.  But now things have had time to get out of my system and these babies will hopefully be big and healthy.

Good luck to you and hopefully you do not have any more near scares in the future Smile
