Casino & Pregnant?

So our wedding is just around the corner...and we have friends coming in from out of town (Hawaii). Hawaii does not have casino's...so right when most of our friends land...they want to head straight to the casino. We blocked out a couple days for the casino. But now since I am pregnant, I think it would be best to stay away from places like that, right?! I don't think it is a good idea to go with, but I do feel bad for missing out. Have any of you gone to a casino while pregnant? Is this a big NO NO in the book of do not's?

Re: Casino & Pregnant?

  • I haven't been to a casino pregnant, but...   I do have asthma and am sensitive to cigarette smoke.  I have never had problems in casinos though.  The ceilings are so high and the ventilation systems work really hard to keep the air clean.  I wouldn't be going every week, but I think a few hours isn't going to make much of an impact.

  • Um, usually at a casino you sit and gamble.  There's nothing detrimental to the baby in that.

  • I did with my first. We only stayed for like 45min....thats all I could take with all of the smoke. We also went during the day which wasn't too busy yet so not as much smoke. If you do go I wouldn't stay too long and make sure to get out for fresh air. Or if its with a hotel you could always hang out in the hotel while your friends finish up.

    Congrats on the wedding!

  • If there is smoking there you should avoid.  Second hand smoke has been associated with genetic malformations same as primary smoking from a recent study (out of UPit I think).  I wouldn't risk it, especially in first trimester.

Oh. They don't allow smoking at our casinos, so it's not an issue.

i wish we had complete smoke free casino's. we have a "smoke free section" ...but u can still smell the cigarette smoke as if you were in the regular section. :P

  • Hi, most casinos have a non smoking section and also even where there is smoking the ventilation is very good. I think you should go have fun and enjoy your friends and family. Have a good time. Maybe you'll hit the jackpot and it';ll pay for your wedding too :)

  • I just went to a comedy show at a casino last weekend and I was worried about the cigarette smoke, too.  I have to tell you, I was pleasantly surprised;  I hardly smelled smoke at all.

  • When I was pregnant with DS, I went early in my third tri and our casino's have smoking sections and non-smoking sections.  I hated it.  I was miserable.  You have to walk through smoking sections to get to some restaurants, to the poker room, etc.  I couldn't enjoy a drink at the roulette table and I was just grumpy.

That said, I'll be just starting my second tri and I'm planning a girls night/day at the casino/hotel with my friend.  We will be sitting by the pool, going to a comedy club and relaxing with out kids and if I'm up for some gambling, I'll go for it.

I say go, see how you feel and leave if you must.

  • We have a trip to vegas planned for the end of this month, that was already planned when I got pregnant. I was a little worried at first, but it's just for a weekend and I will hit my second trimester while I'm there. We will go into the casino to gamble, of course, but we aren't going to spend all day in there. Realistically, you will probably be fine. I would just be careful about sitting next to someone that is smoking for any length of time.
  • I was just in Vegas this weekend and pretty much just never sat next to someone lighting up. But if you got to newer, nicer casinos usually these days the ventillation is much better than it used to be. I mean its a day out of my pregnancy life, I wouldn't miss out if I were you, just be smart about it. And maybe ask your friends not to light up when you sit next to them. And enjoy your wedding weekend!!

  • Like some of the other ladies said, as long as you're in a newer casino or not sitting next to someone smoking you should be fine.  I used to live in Vegas and I've been back to visit including during times I have been pregnant, planning on going in October actually!  In the grand scheme of your pregnancy a couple of days in Vegas isn't going to be detrimental to your or your baby's health unless you're allergic to smoke, that would be different, obviously.  Just stear clear of the small older places :)  ARIA was really nice and open from what I remember.
  • I was just in a casino last week, I don't think it's that big of deal. We only stayed about an hour but the smell never got to me. Like a lot of the other ladies said, this casino was very well ventilated and I was not bothered at all. I wouldnt go every day or every week but once with your friends shouldnt hurt.
