What is the cost of an IUI?

I'm trying to avoid sticker shock, and educate myself so tell me about the costs associated with an IUI.  I know this amount will vary by area/dr/medication needed.  Unless a miracle arises, we would need to use donor sperm.

Re: What is the cost of an IUI?

  • Here's a summary of my IUI costs:

    (I'm doing natural cycle)

IUI: $1760, includes all bloodwork/ultrasound, the insemination itself (2 days back to back), and 1st pregnancy test. My insurance covers 50% of that, so my OOP is $880. The trigger shot was about $90, Cronine is a $45 copay for a 30 day supply (started after the second day IUI)

My RE also has a 3 cycle package, which is total $4400 (3rd cycle half off)

I've had other OOP costs for testing, since that was also 50% covered by my insurance, plus drug copays. My HSG OOP is $399, and I have like $700 OOP due with my RE.

My donor sperm was about 4K total (8 vials)

  • I am 100% OOP and this is what I paid for my IUI's:

5 days of Clomid $36 or 5 days of Femara $7 (insurance actually covered it)

Monitoring appointments $330 each (I was lucky and only had one)

    Trigger shot $107

IUI $317 (this includes the sperm count/warming/etc, I bought the IUI prepared vials)

Donor Sperm $600 per vial (use one per IUI)

My RE doesn't do betas for IUI, you just do a HPT at 14dpiui

    Hope that helps.

  • I have coverage for ultrasounds/appointments, but no meds or procedures.

Aside from the cost of meds (which would run $300-900 for me, depending on the cycle and the pharmacy), IUI and sperm washing would be $350.

  • At my clinic the cost of the actual IUI is $375. That includes the sperm wash and insemination. Not any bloodwork, ultrasounds or meds.

Each u/s at my clinic is around $200 (I believe, I do have coverage for that because of a pre-exisiting condition). Each IUI cycle I had 3-4 u/s. B/w for my baseline was around $300 and each monitoring appointment it was around $150 (again, I believe, I do have coverage for that).

My injectables for our IUI cycle were: $1800 for Menopur, $1400 for Follistim, $100 for trigger, $60 for PIO.

Beta (which is covered for me) is $80.

TI, IUIs, IVF = c/ps and BFNs

  • The actual IUI is $405 (insemination + washing) at my RE's office.

Monitoring is covered for me -- I think at my local OBGYN's office (my RE's office is 2 hours away so I do remote monitoring) it's like $150 for u/s and $90 for b/w, but sometimes I can't get in there, so I have to go to one of the local hospitals and it's like $1500 there for an u/s.

My Femara I bought with a coupon from their website, and it was $10/month.  The Ovidrel was covered by my insurance, but I think it was around $100 without it. When I did injectables, I spent around $600 on the Follistim (my insurance does not cover Follistim or any stims), but again I used a coupon for a free 300 unit vial. The HCG trigger was about $50 -- but that was with my insurance and I don't know how much the OOP price was.

  • Around 800 total for a clomid IUI (with the cost of meds, but clomid is super cheap) and around 1500-2000 for an injectable IUI + the cost of meds, which are $$$.

  • Mine was about $30 for the Femara and $30 for the Ovidrel (my insurance covered both), $300 for the monitoring apt and $270 for the IUI ($150 for the IUI itself and $120 for the sperm wash). I'm not sure about donor sperm but I HTH!

  • I dont know if it differs from state to state, but if it helps I am in Western PA. My insurance did not cover a single penny. I had to pay up front when I walked in the door 1,050.00. My RE does not do payment plans:( This covered my two ultrasounds, sperm wash, IUI and bloodwork to check levels. It will also cover my bloodwork for my pregnancy test. On top of that, I paid 20 dollars for my five days of Clomid at 100mg and I had to pay 60 dollars for my trigger shot. Hope this helps:)

  • I paid $400 for each IUI, $80 for the initial office visit, I used a coupon off the Femara website to get it for $10, and the ovidrel was about $100, my office then just has you take a HPT after 14 days to see if it worked or to start over.
