TAking the passi??

So I have plans of cutting the tips of DS's "nunnies" as we call them.  He is a little over 2 and is quite attached to them. Hes only allowed to have them at naptime and bedtime at the time but weve put up many fights for him to get it in between-its gotta go LOL.  The plan is to do this on my 4 day weeked begining tomorrow.  Any advice? How much should I cut off?  I dont want to make it too different but different enough that it annoys him to not want it....TIA!!!

Re: TAking the passi??

  • My cousin used this approach with her DD when she turned 2.  They just cut the tips about half way, showed her the pacifier and she said oh its broken and didn't want it.  It worked for them.  She said she had 3 bad nights but after that she got the hang of it.  I personally thinks it depends on the child.  Hopefully he doesn't send you to the store for new ones.  Wink

My plan was to take the pacifier away from our DD gradually.  She doesn't do well with change and was VERY attached.  I wanted to take away at naps and then go to bedtime.  She had a bad fall and knocked out one tooth and injured another one so we had to take it away from her that day to save the one tooth.  The first two weeks were torture, now two months later she still asks for it occassionally and I ignore what she asked for and just give her something else and she goes about her business.  But it was a tough road.  Good luck.  I think I miss the pacifier more then she does.  Well I miss the sleeper she was with the pacifier.

  • I did it cold turkey with DS.  He asked for it and I said no more.  He fussed for the first few nights and even asked for it up until a week later and then forgot about it.

  • We took Alex's away in March - since her 2nd birthday she had only been using it at nap time, night time and when she was sick (or in extreme situations). We tried cutting the tips and she said "Oh that's okay, let's go to the store Mommy!" We ended up convincing her that the babies needed her soothers and she was fine.

  • Just over 2 DS bit holes in his pacis an then called them broken.  He did all the ones we had almost at the same time. It was not the right time for him to go cold turkey we were going on vaca and I didn't want to deal with it. I broke down and bought him new pacis and he didn't like them because the weren't worn in like his others.  So he went cold turkey and it wasn't that bad.  I would have never thought I would cut them or recomend cutting them but now I diffently would.  He just bit holes in the top and since he couldn't get suction they were"broken".  I would just slice a hole in the top and see what happens.
