Pregnant after IF

Advice Needed!

Hello,

I had my AS Monday and they said everything looked great from what they could see on the ultrasound and then I got a phone call yesterday from my OB saying MFM sent her something saying that baby's nuchal fold was measuring a bit large for his age.  I pretty much zoned out after that and I think she mentioned that was a soft marker for downs and also something about a fetal echocardiogram.  Has anyone had any expeience with this?  I am terriefied and am driving myself crazy until my appointment.  Any thoughts would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

Re: Advice Needed!

  • Did you have the NT Scan/Quad screening bloodwork done?
Brought to you by IVF, ICSI, limited fert, and oocyte cryopreservation.
    Because we're fancy like that.

  • So the NT scan is a screening test for Downs and I think some other potential genetic disorders.  The fold is measured and usually looked at in conjunction with bloodwork and your age and then you are given a an estimate of having a child with Downs or other Trisomy's.  So something like 1 in 200 or 1 in 1000.

    Did you do the bloodwork?

Don't get too worried yet - it only shows an increased risk, not an absolute.  They may decided based on your risk profile to offer you an amnio that would be an absolute answers.  I think "false positives" are not uncommon on the NT scan and there is nothing about the scan that says Yes your baby absolutely has this genetic condition - it's only a screen.
