Progesterone Suppositories

This is my 3rd pregnancy. My first 2 ended in MC :( As soon as we found out this time I started the prog. I have been exhausted, really hungry, emotional, moody, cramping and very gassy! Today I started spotting. I have been really irritated down there since I began the suppositories. The spotting is a light brownish color. My dr. said not to worry unless its bright red or like a period. I did spot with my last 2 pregnancies but it was red, so I am a little worried. Trying to stay positive. I have an appointment this Thursday. Anyone else having this issue??

Re: Progesterone Suppositories

  • I've been doing daily progesterone shots for the past month and I had the same symptoms in the beginning.  I've also had dark brown spotting.  It hangs around for a day or two and then stops for 5-6 days and then shows up again.  It started again today for the the third time.  My RE has told me the same thing but it's so hard not to panic when seeing the spotting.  Good luck to you!

  • Spotting can be common in pregnancy especially if you are using progesterone suppositories. Sometimes they can irritate your cervix which can cause the spotting. I would bring it up to your doctor on Thursday, but as long as it stays brown, you should be ok.

  • I'm taking Prometrium orally and it seems to be doing the trick. I had low progesterone before I got pregnant though ( it took 3 years) Have you tried the oral stuff? It makes the morning sickness a little worse but I haven't had any spotting yet. Fingers crossed. Good Luck i hope it works out!
  • No the dr didnt give me an option, she just started me on the suppositories, they are irritating me. I do have an appt tomorrow and going to ask about oral or injections bc the suppositories are no fun! What is mg of the oral??
