All these nearly finished nurseries makes me sad

I see all these finished baby's rooms makes me want to kick DH in the butt! He decided that he was going to COMPLETELY gut the baby's room. And when I say gut I mean, sheetrock off the walls and ceiling. He torn down the closet and everything. I mean its going to be fabulous when its done. I just wish he decided to do this sooner. I know we have some time before she gets here. But I'm completely freaking!  Anybody else not even close to finishing or just starting to tackle the baby's room?

Re: All these nearly finished nurseries makes me sad

  • Don't feel bad! We are remodeling our whole downstairs and have been for a year. Our babies room is stuffed to the brim with furniture and tons of other junk until it's done! We won't be starting for a good 2 or 3 more weeks! At least the furniture is ordered....

  • We don't have a baby room yet!  We are trying to buy a house before the baby gets here so we have NO room for the baby at all.  Everything we have recieved or bought, is sitting in our living room.  It is kinda depressing to see all the pretty nurseries and know that we are no where close to having one yet!

We are in a very similar situation.  This weekend we are empting most of the house so that painters can come in and then carpet after that.  We haven't touched what will be the nursery - other then to look in and dream of what it will look like one day! :)

It seems like you'll never be ready, but I'm sure it will all come together!

    Good luck!

  • Right there with you!!  We just has plaster on the walls and thought that we should insulate it a little better because it gets real hot in the summer and real cold in the winters (older house so heat and air dont work as well).  Currently we have a completely gutted room.  In the middle of the tear down my husband decided he wanted to make our bathroom a little larger so one of our bathroom walls is gone too!  We are suppose to start the studding for the bathroom wall and a closet in like a week and a half but Im soooo ready for it to be done so I can start the nursery!

  • Our babies nursery is still Dh's office and he is fixing stuff outside right now so I can't complain but I would like to have a place to put the baby stuff (not like I have much but first shower is in a couple weeks)
  • We've been doing the room in fits and starts.  We started cleaning it out and prepping it almost immediately, then did nothing for weeks.  Then we did all of the painting and put the crib in, then did nothing for weeks.  Recently we bought a dresser and shelf unit...and have done nothing since.  We've made progress but are nowhere near done.

  • We are in the process of cleaning out the room.  It was being used for storage.  We bought the paint, so as soon as I get everything out I can start that.  Then I need to shampoo the carpet.  Our crib and changing table are at my parents house in boxes.  Eventually I will get this done.

  • I think some people are just very excited and anxious to get going that they start and finish the room by the time they're 20 weeks! :)

With that said, it's perfectly normal to wait until 8 months or so to get started b/c in all reality, the baby is most likely not going to be in there until he or she is at least a month old. (Of course, I'm also trying to tell myself this as I have recurring dreams that the baby is born and nothing is done) lol

  • I have done nothing with the nursery. There is still a huge pile of junk in there from moving and pictures leaning against the walls to be hung elsewhere in our house. The cat boxes also live in there (haha). Don't worry--I think those who are done or even started are in the minority. I'm looking forward to having a project for September-October.

  • Don't feel bad. I haven't started because I don't even have a room for the baby yet! lol. I am moving into a house next weekend then we'll be able to start buying things to get a nursery put together.

  • We have the bedding and furniture, but no where to put it! I started condensing our 2nd bedroom last week but we still have some big furniture in there that we need to get rid of .

  • DH and I finally cleaned out the garage today. We are having a garage sale this Saturday. Wish me luck as I have tons of stuff to get rid of. Baby's room is almost done, but I started early as I knew we would be tacking other projects. We are closing on a 2nd house this week and will remodel that before renting it out. Lots of work ahead of us ladies!!!

  • Baby's room is half unfinished in our house also. It has been a storage room. I'm in the process of cleaning it out but there are a lot of boxes so I can only do so much without help. But the motivation has kicked in so I feel like that is a major step forward. It also helps that as I'm sorting through things our family room is the staging ground for finding new places for our "keep" piles (i.e. winter clothes, baby stuff) and it is a constant reminder and source of aggravation. It will come together though. The question is will I be helping just directing? Haha
  • I will be moving into our new house at the end of October while H is deployed so I won't be starting for quite some time.

  • DS #1 will be sharing a room w/ baby, so basically we spent a day moving stuff around & organizing the room. I'm still wanting to hit the store for another dresser for DS #2. KMart has a few that look good to me.

  • We haven't even started yet either. We just moved into our new place on Aug 5th. So I am just happy that our little girl actually HAS a room in our house. We're trying to get the rest of the house unpacked and then I am hoping my DH can put together the crib so that I can work on the rest of the nursery while my DH is gone (he'll be coming and going A LOT for the rest of the year). I am hoping the crib is set up before we go back home next week as I'll be coming home with stuff from my baby shower and know I'll want to start right in on the nursery!

  • All I've managed to do is paint the room that's going to double as a nursery. Because my DH is being deployed and the LO and I will be living with my In-Laws, I don't have too much say in how that room is going to be done. I got a say in the color (a pretty blue by Behr.) But I've gotten it painted. But I get like... a WALL to work with. Basically, my crib. :/ Because my MIL refuses to take down the guest bed. I mean, it's not likely guests are going to be sleeping in there with a baby but... I guess it makes sense. I mean- not my house. I feel lucky they're being so understanding about my DH and I not wanting me to be alone at all.
  • I can imagine how you feel! We have painted the nursery and assembled the crib and bought bedding  but waiting on the rest of the furniture to come in before I do anything else. I still feel like I am behind ...need curtains, finish the closet, get the other odds and ends. I think once all the furniture finally gets here I will get my butt in gear with it.

Hopefully your DH will get the balling rolling...faster ;)

  • Don't feel bad!  With DD - she was early and when she arrived, we had just turned a loft area upstairs into a bedroom so it was only just the walls!  DH was very sweet and had it all done by the time I got home (I was on bedrest in the hospital for a week before finally delivering at 34w) - so it can be done very quickly!!

For this one we are pretty much waiting to see what we have then will decorate afterwards!  Really, the baby won't notice :)  Baby will be in a bassinet for a few weeks before we can hopefully transition DD out of her crib.

Same here!! We just moved into a new rental last month and it's a log house so the walls are all wood, no painting there. We can hang stuff but wall decals wont work either. We're also waiting to buy stuff until after our baby shower so we can use the coupons toward the big stuff. Plus our son won't be in his nursery for a few months anyway..
