We live far enough away from the school to warrant a bus ride. Walking is definitely not an option! We received our bus stop today, though, and it seems kind of far away. I don't know--my bis always picked me up on the corner where we lived when I was growing up, so that's my only reference right now. The stop is .4 miles away from the house. It's AT LEAST a 7 minute walk for an adult, let alone a kindergardener. It just seems really far. Is that the norm in your district?
Re: How far away is your child's bus stop?
It gets farther and farther away with every budget cut. It used to be our driveway, then the close corner, and is now at the far corner.
Ours is at the end of our road. Luckily we live on a dead end street with sidewalks on both sides. I would say it is around 100 yrds from our house. We can see where they stand and watch as they walk down and get on. Plus we have a neighbor we are friends with that is out every morning watching her son so keeps an eye on all of the kids. My girls are super excited about riding the bus even though Im not working (yet) and could take them. I am taking them the first day. They will have to get over it! Mama needs to take pics and try not to cry as they go into their room.

Ours is right across the street.
If a student in JK-gr8 (ages 4-14) lives within 1.6km (1 mile) of the school they attend, they must walk or find alternate transportation.
If they live outside that limit, their busstop will be no farther away than 0.8km (1/2 mile) from their home. From the front door to the bus stop for us is about a 3-4 minute walk.
Since I will be dropping DS2 off at daycare after DS1 is on the bus, we will actually drive to the bus stop.
High school kids get busing if they live outside of a 3.2km (2 mile) radius of the school and their bus stop can be 1.6km (1 mile) away from their home.
