I'm not sure medically, but Michael is in the 20th percentile for weight and 10th percentile for length (both for actual age - he's a big boy) This was at 3 months. At 2 months he was at the 5th percentile for both... So it seems he is gaining weight faster than length. I'm interested to hear what others say.
Yep, I think so! My LO is now 7.5 lbs (5 wks adjusted) and 20 inches - neither hits the 'normal' growth curve for a baby his age. But his big ole' noggin is now on the 10th percentile curve for a baby his age ha ha. It'll all catch up and converge at some point. Until then, I guess I just have to listen to my husband tease me about LO getting his melon from my side of the family ha ha.
Oh thank God! His head is ginormous (90th percentile for preemies at his 2 month check up) & he's gaining weight well (90th percentile for preemies at his 2 month check up). His length however he's below average for preemies & I may have let his head slip off the top when she was measuring him because it was like the 5th time she tried & i was getting annoyed. This makes me feel better about his length

Yeah, Gabe is a little over 8.5lbs, 20 inches long, and his head is HUGE. LOL! His head is on the regular baby growth curve too. Poor guy, it makes tummy time super hard.

I think it depends. Ds had IUGR, so for us we're shooting up in length and head, and his weight is lagging behind big time, but that's common for IUGR.

I agree with this. Even though JS is about 12 pounds and H is only 7, H is almost as long as JS. Just skinny. And his head always been big compared to the rest of his body. Guess he's gonna be a smarty

DS didn't pop onto the term growth charts until his 4 month appointment, and at that time he was 50th percentile for head circumference and weight, and 10th percentile for length.
I noticed that his torso seemed long, but his legs seemed short. And within the last month he has definitely hit a major growth spurt, his head is still huge, but he's definitely longer

to be honest, i don't know what is "normal" for preemies, but DS went head, length and then weight. he is still on the skinny side (i just cannot relate! ).
Re: Does length catch up last?
Yep, it's head circumference first, then weight, then length.
here's one link that mentiones this, it's written by a neonatologist at a children's hospital in MN https://www.prematurity.org/child/growth/catchup.html look at the phases of growth section.
