Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

What do you plan to do about Cmas tree and LO this year?

I know it's still very early re: holidays but I just realized how much DD gets into EVERYTHING....She will be 18 mo in December so I'm sure it's only going to get crazier.  Our house is very open and the only rooms we can put our tree up, DD will have full access too.  So what do parents with active toddlers do about the tree??  I can picture DD pulling everything off of it.

  • I'll be telling her not to touch it about 11 bazillion times per day.  LOL!  I figure after a week or so it'll probably get old for her.

  • I wish that would be the case for DD but I'm not holding my breath!  Smile

  • I'll probably hang the ornaments out the boy's reach.

  • When i was pregnant, we bought a fake tree after Christmas for 75% off.  He didn't pay much attention to it last year but I'm sure he'll be into it this year.  I don't think I'll put any glass ornaments on it.

  • I've never really baby-proofed anything, so the tree will be no different.  If I drill in that something is off limits enough, he usually gets it.

  • same thing we did last year: put up the tree with her around, put decor (ornaments, etc) out of reach, and tell her that she can touch the tree but that's about it. she's pretty good with boundaries i set as long as we're consistent about it.

  • You guys are lucky that your toddlers listen to you that much already!  I'll try the non-breakable ornaments on the bottom and see how it goes.  I sure hope I'm wrong but I can see this becoming a daily headache for me.

  • Normally our's goes in the sunroom right off of our livingroom but since that has become DD's playroom and I have no idea what the heck I will do with her toys if I put it there I am thinking it's going to MAYBE go into the alcove in our dinning room (assuimg the alcove is high enough which it might not be).

  • I plan to put one of those play yard gates around it. There is no way DS wouldn't mess with it - he would probably try to climb it. All of my ornaments are breakable and expensive.
  • DD was 12 months last Christmas and we just hung the ornaments out of her reach.  She was fascinated by it for a few days, but then she got bored with it and quit trying to play with the tree.  I figure we will go through the same thing this year.

  • Good question - I will probably also tell him no touch 100 times a day.
