Anyone delivered at Alexian Brothers in Elk Grove Village

Has anyone delivered at Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elk Grove Village? My doctor is affiliated with St. Alexius in Hoffman Estates and Alexian Brothers in Elk Grove Village. I just found out St. Alexius only has semi-private rooms, and unless you happen to not be sharing a room, your husband or significant other cannot spend the night! I called Alexian Brothers in Elk Grove Village, and was told they have all private rooms, so we are looking into delivering in there instead, as I really want a private room and want my husband to be able to spend the nights! Any advice is much appreciated!!

  • I delivered at Northwest Community before their new addtion, and they had 10 semi private and 10 private rooms. The private rooms were all filled when I got to that half, so I had to share a room, and it really wasn't that bad. The first night was a breeze, the second night was a little rougher because they brought in a roommate at about 3 am, and she was a chatter (read: complainer).  But all in all, it wasn't the end of the world to share for 2 days.

I don't know how much help my dh would have been, because he was so tired, and I actually preferred that he left, because he came home and got a good nights sleep, so that I could rest a bit more during the day and then at least one of us was well rested when we got home with the baby.

Plus, the nurses are incredibly helpful (at least in my experience).  I know NathsprincssD delivered at St. Alexius (at least, I'm about 99% positive she was there at not at Alexian Bros) so I'll send her a message to chime in about her experience at St. Alexius, and I have a friend whos an L&D/Postpardum nurse at Alexian Bros, I can ask her any direct questions you may have, if you want.

Also, St. Alexius does not have a nursery to send the babies too, so they are in you room at all times, which is something I am 100% fine with and while they encouraged me to send my dd to the nursery so that I could "rest" I refused, I grew her, I pushed her out, and was finally getting to see her, no way in heck was she going to be sleeping down the hall.

  • I delivered at Alexian Brothers.  I know that the rooms can become doubles, but I was there for 4 days and had a private room the entire time.  DH slept on the recliner next to me and when he was not there my dad or mom were with me.  I had lots of visitors and a pretty good experience with the actual hospital.

If your looking for a place to have time in the tub, Alexian Brothers does have one room with a tub, you can not deliver in the tub but you can relax and labor in it :)

  • I don't usually post on this board but thank you for the info! We'll be delivering at AB in EGV and I wasn't sure if they had private rooms or not.

  • I've doula'd at both and Alexian Brothers is a nicer facility then St. Alexius. The nurses at Alexian Brothers were much nicer as well and like mentioned above they have a water therapy and St. Alexius does not.

  • I definitely think ABMC is better than St. Alexius. I used to work at ABMC and just was there for our tour. My DH's cousin delivered there in February and loved it. ABMC does have 24 private rooms, but some are smaller than others (the original rooms). The only way you have to share is if there is an overabundance of women there at the same time.
