Allergy safe birthday party

Yesterday was DS 1st birthday and we had almost the entire party allergy friendly and hardly anyone noticed! We had beef & turkey hamburgers and hot dogs, along with a potato salad (using https://www.yummly.com/recipe/Potato-Salad-Recipezaar_15 subbing vinegar for lemon juice), a macaroni salad (using https://www.briannassaladdressing.com/flavors/poppy-seed.html), veggie tray w/ hummus and a fruit platter. The cupcakes were amazing and super moist, we used this recipe: https://www.foodallergy.org/recipes/single/recipe/baseball-cupcakes and no one believed they were vegan!

The only things not safe were the cheese slices and possibly the baked beans, I don't eat them so I didn't check the ingredients.

Re: Allergy safe birthday party

  • thats awesome.  I find birthdays to be stressful since you can't monitor everything like you want to.  I had a lot of allergy friendly stuff for our party, but DH's family insisted on bringing food....which meant there was some not so allergy friendly stuff there.  I had to watch Asher like a hawk and do everything for the party at the same time.  Next year....Allergen Free Party!

  • sounds delicious (minus meat -i'm a vegeterain lol) but i know what you mean. we hosted a bbq for our friends this saturday and the son has celiac so i couldn't believe i was able to make everything milk/soy/egg/nut/gluten free.  it was a total success, even with desert.

it's so stressful but so much easier when you know everything is safe and you can actually enjoy the party.

  • yay!  We only do allergy safe parties at our house now for just that reason.  We did J's birthday party a few months ago and I just had B's baptism party this weekend.  The huge amounts of prep work/cooking for a crowd are totally worth being able to relax at a party and let your kid eat everything they see that day.  :)
