Twin mama's - how often seeing OB/MFM at the end

So when I first saw my OB and got dx'ed as mono/di twins, the OB said I'd be seeing them all the time and by the end it would be twice a week with NST's and ultrasounds.  Then I went to the MFM at 20 weeks, found some problems, continued with the MFM every other week and I feel like my OB has written me off. I went last week at 30 weeks, they aren't going to see me for another month, then I have that appt and one two weeks later that is two days before my scheduled c/s. They aren't doing ultrasounds or NSTs.  My MFM does an u/s when I see her every other week and I'm scheduled every other week until my c/s.

Does that sound like not alot of monitoring or am I being overly cautious.

Re: Twin mama's - how often seeing OB/MFM at the end

  • Sounds right to me. I saw my MfM monthly from 12-18 weeks and then every other week after that for cervical length check and a growth u/s monthly. At 28 weeks I will see him weekly. I don't see my ob that much which is fine with me because she doesn't really do much and her u/s machine sucks. I think MFM will make the call about when to deliver anyways even though ob will be doing my c section. MFM does not do deliveries.

  • sounds reasonable to me.

i see an MFM only (my MFM delivers) and i am seeing him next week at 31-ish weeks (last time was a month ago) and, if everything looks fine, won't see him after that until 35w. once i hit 35w i will go once/week for NSTs until i deliver/hit 38w (the latest he will make me go, i think).

  • I've been seeing my OB every week since 26 weeks, but I've also had some complications. Without complications I would have started seeing my OB weekly at 32 weeks. Weekly BPP's & NST's are also routine at my practice starting at 32 weeks.

I last saw my MFM at 26 weeks and won't see them again unless something comes up.

  • Thanks ladies - that makes me feel better.  I think I will ask about NSTs though.
