Yesterday I got home and my car seat was waiting for me ! My good friend had ordered it for me since it would have been hard for her to carry to my shower in September. So excited! Now baby has a way to come home ![]()
So here's my question, I am a NYer spoiled by public transportation... so I don't have a car or even know how to drive... ( Though I do have my permit and intend to learn at some point)
So how can I get my seat inspected to make sure I install it right?
As of now , my dad is supposed to bring me and baby home from the hospital.
Could I put the seat in prior and maybe go by the fire department by my house and they could check it for me? Is that thorough enough of an inspection?
There is a checkpoint at the hopspital before you leave but I'd rather not wait til the last minute to find out it might be installed wrong.
What would you do ?
Re: Got my carseat yesterday ! YAY! Now a question...
I actually just had mine inspected yesterday! Look online to see where there are carseat check points in your area. Not all firestations automatically do them (for liability reasons).
I felt comfortable having them check mine out. They made sure we had them in properly, made them as tight and secure as possible and gave me lots of great tips on my seats.
Ditto checking out where exactly they do inspections around you (or your dad if it is his car). Here in Chicago - the police stations do them, and you have to make an appointment. there is a website: seatcheck.org, where you can find your nearest inspection location and give them a call.
Because we're fancy like that.
go to this website to see where you can have your car seat installation checked:

definitely don't wait until the hospital - you will have enough going on!
we will be installing ours this weekend and taking it in for inspection next week.

Patchen yeah it's crazy right ? I am so glad my friend got me the car seat it was the thing I was worried the most about because without it I literally couldn't have taken the baby home as they just won't let baby leave if you don't have a car seat.
Luckily I am not planning any car trips with her , I can take the bus where I live to pretty much almost anywhere, so I can either wear her or have her in the snap and go in her seat.
