I have a baby bjorn but I need something which I can carry on the back. Mostly will use for travel- siteseeing, airport etc. We are not big on hiking.

Re: can anyone recommend your baby carrier

  • love love love my Ergo! Just used it for a trip with DD(2-1/2) and didn't hurt my back at all!!!

  • The ladies on here recommended the Ergo Baby and Ijust love it! We've only used it as a front carrier, but you can use it on the back as well.

  • I have a lilebaby and we both love it. I tried the Ergo and loved it but DS prefered foward facing. I suggest buying through someone who offers a good return policy. It may take a few tries to get the right carrier. Aslo head over to the Attachement Parenting board, they are very helpful.

I purchased mine through diapers.com. They offer a 365 day return policy.

  • Ergos were lifesavers for us on our recent plane trip.  We had LO's in our laps for the flight out, and they climbed ALL over us for 2.5 hrs.  On the flight home, we wore them both in the Ergos, and they were fabulous.  DS even slept for an hour, an DD was much more calm.  They were also great for when we had to take them out of the stroller to do the gate check, and we could wear them as we boarded the plane...instead of straddling them on your hip, wrangling carry ons, trying not to clock people in the head w/ your bags, etc.   Love them!

  • If you want to carry on your back, hands down you'll want the Beco Butterfly. It's much much easier to back carry than the ergo. There is carrier on the front and back of the child so that they are completely safe when you move them to your back. You don't have that level of safety with an ergo as it just covers their back. It's super easy to get the kid in and out of and comes with an infant insert if needed. I've used mine for two kids and love love love it!! I just carried 30lb Ana around the fair grounds for 4 hours yesterday in it.  :)

  • I have tried the Bjorne, ergo, moby, and Beco Gemini. We love the moby and the Beco Gemini. The other two did not work for us. Also would like to get Mei Tai type carrier at some point
  • I have a Beco Butterfly II, very comfortable.

  • I am gonna go off the beaten path so far and recommend a woven wrap. I have tried a variety of different carries and these are by far the most comfortable, easy and versatile, that is, once you get the hang of it. They come in all different lengths and colors and designs and you can wrap your baby on you a million different ways and it is oh so cozy. As PP said, check out the AP board as well as www.thebabywearer.com for TONS of info, pictures, and recommendations. There is also a board that buys, sells, and trades all types of carriers and you can get an amazing deal on whichever one you decide to go with! Here's a picture of DD wrapped on my back in a woven, for reference:
