Food Allergy

need high calorie foods- dairy/egg/nut allergy

we also avoid pitted fruits due to a peach allergy she has, so no avacados either. something dairy, egg, nut free for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner that is high calories?

Re: need high calorie foods- dairy/egg/nut allergy

  • Since you can have tofu, make tofu scramble and add "butter" to it.

yogurts (so delicious has milk/soy free yogurts)

    add olive oil to everything

    smoothies (w/ yogurt)

i'm getting a blank.. avocados are usually my go to high calorie food.  Curious to what everyone else says.

  • Tofutti makes a dairy-free cream cheese. I've been putting it on crackers and bagels for DD for breakfast. Offer a variety of fresh fruit and let her have juice. We make pancakes (the Bisquick variety is dairy-free) and freeze them and offer them with syrup or smear them with a jam or jelly. She has also been on a bacon kick and that's a great way to get some fat and protein in your LO. For lunch, will she eat fish? Ian's makes a dairy-free fish sticks, Tyson chicken nuggets are dairy-free, not sure about eggs. I also let her have the Oscar Meyer nitrate-free hot dogs (they are 17 grams of fat per dog). I seriously went through every hot dog package looking for the most fat and calories. For dinner, DD will eat her body weight in snowcrab rolls from our local sushi place (there is nothing raw, but you'd probably have to ask and make sure they leave out the avacado). I also make baked salmon (there is a good recipe on the weelicious website). In fact, if you use the Weelicious site, you can search for dairy-free recipes, then weed out the others based on your LO's allergies. She has lots of nutritious choices. If you have a Whole Foods near you, check out the Amy's products. I found DD a dairy-free vegan mac and cheese. I thought it was good and pretty darn close to the real thing (its also like 17 grams of fat per serving) but DD wanted nothing to do with it. :-(

  • Have you tried Sunbutter?  Are seeds an issue?  Tons of fat and protein.

  • Lots of good suggestions above.  Here's what we did while we were struggling with weight issues:

    •  Hebrew National hot dogs fried in Earth's best "butter"
    • Hummus with extra olive oil poured on top
    • Condensed coconut milk added to rice milk
    • Cooked oatmeal in "milk" rather than water and added brown sugar for extra taste/calories
    • You can buy coconut kefir (like a yogurt drink but with way more calories) and use that for smoothies
    • Get creative when you bake- use full fat versions of everything (like shortening vs. low fat "butter")
    • Fry things in olive oil/"butter" when possible- like we'd grill our chicken breasts for dinner and pan fry J's.
    • Read the labels on everything for calorie content.  I would pick out juice based on which one had the most calories (V8 splash and Naked brand are good ones).  If you are trying to decide between 2 brands of cookies- pick the one with higher calories.
