Babies: 3 - 6 Months

LO is scared of car rides

I'm at my wits end! I am unable to take my 3-month LO anywhere via car, as he screams bloody murder like someone is cutting off his right arm. He never used to be like this. It started maybe a month or two ago. Every time he gets strapped in his car seat, the fussing begins. We are good for maybe 15 minutes or so, and then all hell breaks loose. Any ideas of how to break him of this? I've been taking him on some rides and am forced to let him cry it out with no choice. Is this a phase that will pass? HELP!?

Re: LO is scared of car rides

  • Sorry no advice but I'm in the same boat. Apparently some babies just hate their carseats. My LO will be four months soon and this is still going on with him. I too hope he will grow out of it. It's beyond frustrating but I just can't let it keep me home bound all the time anymore. GL!

  • Sorry no advice here either but I feel your pain! DD has also decided that she hates the carseat with a passion! Here's to hoping it gets better for us all!

  • Just some ideas for you.  Make sure the straps are adjusted right, that the seat isn't hot to the touch when you put them in, adjust the sun/hood part of the seat so the sun isn't in their eyes, I keep a certain toy in the car so she is occupied.  I keep the radio on and sing to her.

  • DD started to do this 1-2 months ago, so we bought her a Mirror that plays music and lights up, from baby einstein.  That helped some, but sometimes if she is really cranky we sing the wheels on the bus.  WORKS EVERYTIME!

    She has gotten better....good luck!

  • Do you use the car seat in the stroller too? Like a Snap N Go? We use the car seat in the Snap N Go and our jogging stroller so DS is in the car seat a lot. Maybe try walking around with him/her in the stroller so he/she gets more used to the car seat.
