We've decided on a name for baby #2 but just recently found out it is quite popular. We've kind of decided what to do but Im just curious what people think in this situation? [Poll]
Thanks! That's kind of what we're doing, although I'm really set on the name we picked. I think of it when I think of the little guy in there so it will be tough to change haha. The kids with the name now are kindergarden age, so by the time baby's here maybe the fad will have shifted. But we're not overly concerned if it's still really popular
I personally don't know any other babies with the name, but my SIL works in schools working with kindergarden/grade 1 age kids and she said she heard it all the time. But she lives downtown and we live in the burbs so maybe it's a "downtown" name haha.
Just go with it, Aiden was like the #1 name (or close to it) in 2009 and we chose Noah for this little boy, which is still pretty popular. I was Sara W my whole life, my boys may just have to suffer the same fate.
PS- Happy Birthday to your little boy, if I remember correctly, our boys are birthday twins!
If I really loved the name I would use it but definately not change the spelling. I hate it when regular names have different spellings and then it makes it harder to pronounce or spell the kids name.
Haha, when we picked the name "Orin" for DS, we were saying "ok now watch suddenly everyone will discover the name.." but nope he's the only Orin we know. We've decided on Logan for his sibling, and so far we don't know any but it's apparently #17 or something on the popularity list. But meh, he'll be OUR Logan.
Same here on changing the spelling.. I really don't like it when there's a name like "Catherine", and it gets changed to "Katharynn" or something.

I think Logan's a classic name. I teach Kindergarten and I taught one last year, but don't have any this year. And yes, please don't make the spelling unique!

If I really love the name, I'd keep it. Check out other options totally & if you find something you like better, go for it. Changing the spelling only complicates things-- and names are more often said than spelled.

Personally, I'd like to avoid all top 10 names, but if it is a name that you love and the popularity doesn't bother you, then go for it. Baby name wizard has a feature where you can look at the popularity of a name by region and through time. Some names that are popular nationally have no traction here in the Southwest.

Great choice!!! We chose the name Logan also for a boy (we aren't finding out what we are having). We had a similar discussion but we only have heard of one other Logan in our area and like you said, regardless of how many kids have the name he will be OURS and, therefore, special!
2) I had a general "no Top 50" rule, but I think if you love a name, you love a name. I read an article that said there's such a variety of names being used these days (because everyone values uniqueness!) that even the Top 10 names will never compare to the popularity of the Jennifers and Brittanys of the 80s.
If you love it, keep it. We really liked Ella or Isabella for a girl but they're both VERY popular. We might use Eleanor or Isobel instead, which aren't even in the top 1000 over here (they're more popular in the UK, where I'm from, but still not crazy popular).

My husband loves the name Eleanor but thats because its the name of the Mustang in Gone in 60 sec. Our DD is named Shelby so he wanted to stay with the theme but Were going with Dakota. We liked a lot of different names from the top 10 list but we loved how not many people are named Dakota and its universal so it can be for a boy or a Girl.
Dakota Lynn for a girl
Dakota Scott for a boy

My cousin has a son named Logan (5) and my Uncle just had a son and named him Logan last year, but those are the only two I know. I think it's a good name. Use it if you love it!
I was in love with Madison for years, but it has been in the top 10 for years now, so I probably won't even use it. I was going to use it as a middle name, but now I think there are others I like better.
My name is Jennifer (VERY popular for my age) and I HATED it when I was in school. I usually had about 5 other Jennifers in a large class.
The reason I REALLY hated it though is because my last name is easily made fun of so because they had to use last names too EVERYONE knew it and I was constantly teased. :-(

My name is Lizzie (Elizabeth), which was THE most popular name the year I was born. I know a few others, and my BFF is also called Lizzie, but it never bothered me. I actually kinda like sharing a name with her - it was always a good conversation starter! I guess it can go either way.
If I fall in love with a name, I don't care if it's super popular.
I should say, though, that that only applies if it's popular in the world, but not in my circle of friends. I would never name my child, say, Reagan, only because 2 of my friends' children's names are Reagan. KWIM?
My DD's name is Madelyn, which is fairly popular. But, she's the only Madelyn in my circle, and we love it, so it works.
I voted "I don't know" because we're in the same situation. We've had a girl name that's a family name picked out for years, but its become very popular so I'm not sure I want to use it. It's important to me to not have a super common name.
good luck!
I voted to change the name, only because I fell in love with Carter and now it seems like there are a million Carter's, so I'm going to try and come up with something else. But if you love it, stick with it!
I'm a Jennifer, born in the late 1970s. In every class, every sports team, every scout troop, every activity I was ever in... I was one of 3 or 4 or more Jennifers. I have no problem with the name, per se, but a young child might feel a lack of individuality. I sure did when I was growing up.
I've loved Olivia for years and want to use it for our baby if we have a girl. It's something like 4th on the list, so I debated on using it. But I keep thinking that it's the right name. So, it's still tops on my list.

Re: If a Name is Popular (clicky)
Is it quite popular in the country or in your area? Do you know anyone that has a baby with that name?
For example I know that Sophia is really popular, but I only know of 1. Same with Layla, Addison, Grace.

Logan is a great name, I'd just go with it. Popular and trendy are different-- I'd go with a popular name, but not a popular and trendy name.
And please god, do not change the spelling of this name to make it uneek
"Yes, my name is Logan, spelled Qzogahenne" .... wtf.

I don't think of Logan as a popular or trendy name at all. I don't mind popular so much but I hate trendy names.
I'm glad you won't do a uneek spelling.
For me personally, it depends on how popular the name is versus how much I love it. If you really like it, I say go for it.
I like your sons name Orin, we were looking at Odin for a boys name awhile ago

I voted to "change the name totally".
