July 2011 Moms

Having a baby has turned me into a hippie...

EBF?  Check (well I EP, but still, he gets breast milk)

Cloth diaper?   Check

Co-Sleep? Check (we don't bed share)

Baby-led weaning?  This is our plan, can't wait to tell the pedi about it. LOL!

CIO? No way!

I'm going to change my name to crunchy4253  Stick out tongue

  • what do you mean by 'crunchy'? I keep seeing this word used but I'm completely in the dark!

  • Haha! I know what you mean. I just told my SIL the other night that Ruby is really into being carried in her Bjorn. She downright loves it.

As a result, exact quote was, "It works and I get a lot done but I feel all hippie/attachment parenting/crunchy granola like."

I also CD and love it. It's so d*mn easy.

I'm still EPing as well. We'll see how long that lasts. I still have a love hate relationship with it.

I also have tons of J&J babywash to use up from gifts and don't want it to go to waste/spend money on more but I worry about the chemicals in it (I've always been a soap freak though). Can't wait until I find something more natural.

The only thing that prevents me from being entirely hippie is that my kid has been in her own crib from day 2 and LOVES that too.

Yeah, we baby wear.  We have several types of carriers for him.  I know you live in the land-o-targets.  California Baby is awesome.  I use the unscented stuff.  I swear it is going to last until he is 2.  It is so concentrated, you hardly have to use any and it is chemical free.  Skin deep rates it really well.

We had Gabe in his crib, but he started getting panicky when we left him in there after about 5 weeks at home.  So, we stared bringing him in our room.  He is still in there now because I am too paranoid to have him in his room now that he is off his heart monitor.

  • Me too- I EBF and we do it on demand. And the moby wrap is fantastic. And we spend about 5hrs a day on a yoga ball. WTF happened to me?

  • Katie, which carriers do you use?

I want to break out the CD stash but DD is still getting a diaper change every 2 hours :( Maybe I'll start doing a few a day to start out :)

  • BWahaha I needed this post and the laughs.  I'm so with you ladies. I don't CD because I couldn't get DH on board but will if we have any more.

We Co-sleep and bed share(gasp). This is partly due to DS's sleep apnea and me being paranoid.

I plan to make my own baby food that jar crap...well is just that crap.

Haha! I have all the gear to make my own baby food as well. My SILs think I'm nuts! I'm totally with you ladies except for cloth diapering. I couldn't handle it. But, we use chlorine free sposies from Whole Foods. Happy medium, I guess.

DH & I went on a couple major purges while I was pg to get rid of anything with BPA, lead, artificial colors & fragrances from our house. Since I'm home during the week these days, I'm getting all our produce from the farmer's market too. Urban hippies!

  • Hahaha no kidding! Who knew we were all so granola? Let's see what do I do? Bed share, cloth diaper, wear my baby ALL.THE.TIME, EBF on demand (again, ALL.THE.TIME!) and I fully intend on making my own baby food when the time comes!

  • I am also a semi-crunchy mama...wait til you get to serving up real food - you will be so picky about everything that goes into your child's mouth and you will insist it is organic and natural and healthy - crazy what being responsible for little people's well-being will do to a person :)

  • Ha I already leaned far to that side, but I definitely know what you mean about being a mommy about making it even worse and I LOVE it! Thank goodness for crunchy mammas!

  • I want to know where ARE these babies that sleep in their own crib, don't like to be carried, and prefer formula over BM? I think they are like the bigfoot of babies.

I'm "crunchy" (well, minus the cloth diaper thing), but only because I'm too damn lazy to not be crunchy.

I BF because I don't want to bother with bottles or prepping formula. Plus the burning 500 calories a day thing without working out really appeals to my laziness. I would keep nursing until DD says "no more", but my RE won't start another cycle on me until I wean...so DD's getting weaned at a year. My eggs are crap and they don't have too many good years left. If DD wants a sibling (well not like she has a choice, but you know what I mean), she's getting weaned at a year because the RE clinic says so.

I have no less than 5 different carriers in my house because it's just easier. DD wants to be held all.the.fvcking.time, so baby wearing is the only way I'm actually able to be somewhat mobile and make myself a sandwich.

We bedshare/co-sleep because it's easier. She'll cry and scream if I try to have her sleep anywhere that is not next to a warm body (any warm body will do). Plus, when she fusses at night, I don't have to drag my arse out of bed. I like sleeping and I get more sleep when she's right next to me. Laziness? Check.

I plan on making my own baby food with one of those hand-crank portable grinder things. DD gets what I'm eating...I'll just grind up whatever I'm eating and poof. Instant baby food. Although, this is not laziness driving this, instead it's because I'm a cheap bastard and don't want to pay for baby food that looks and tastes like ass (I've tried baby food...that schnizz is NASTY).

  • I thought this was going to be, I quit shaving my pits post lol.  I am doing all these things as well, but like a previous poster most of it is out of laziness.  I breastfeed because I don't have to get up and make a bottle.  I co-sleep with DS so I can get a small amount of sleep instead of no sleep (he's a terrible sleeper like his sister was). We made our own baby food with DD because it's just easier to make one meal for everyone.  Now that we live back in Kansas we have a giant garden, are raising our own meat, and grind our own flour from wheat my uncle planted and harvested.  It's nice to know where the food you eat comes from.  Oh and our chickens eat our leftovers lol.  I still shave my pits though Wink

  • I also EBF, bed share, cloth diaper, baby wear, use organic baby products, don't let DD CIO and plan to do BLW. Oh, and I make my own detergent and cloth wipes. This is such a new part of myself!

  • Haha, I feel the same way.  I don't do most of this stuff in an effort to "be crunchy" but it makes me seem like that anyway!

-We cloth diaper to save $$, though admittedly the decline in our amt of garbage vs. when we were in sposies the first few weeks is nice as well.

-I'm EBFing, both bc it's good for LO and it saves lots of $$...though I plan to wean around 6 mos.

-Planning to make my own baby food

    -Using California Baby bath products

I guess the areas where I don't fit are with sleep (DS has been in his crib since the first week) and baby wearing...I love to wear him but he doesn't always like to be worn!

Yes   I'm with ya (except on the pumping - I'll do that more when I return to work) and couldn't be happier about all of the decisions! Good for the baby, DH and I are happy, plus we don't have to pay for sposies or formula!! Good - we're cheap! :)
