VBAC

Being induced on Thursday for gestational hypertension

My blood pressure will not come down despite being on bed rest for a week now.  I'm nervous because I am trying for a VBAC.  My doctor will just do a low dose pit induction and he thinks it will be successful and I will get my VBAC.  He has a 97% VBAC success rate, I believe.

My doctor is one of the rare gems of a Dr that is honestly supportive of VBAC.  From what I understand from ICAN there's only really one other Dr that is as supportive as him.  He will do VBAC breech, twins, etc.  He honestly believes in the woman's ability to birth vaginally.  He does not induce many of his patients at all, usually only induces at 42+, so I feel that him recommending this should be listened to.  He did say that I could say no, but he felt like it would be best.   He's also a very Godly man which I really appreciate.

I'm just scared/overwhelmed.  I was induced with my DD but I know in my head this will be different.  I think my old OB always planned on me having a section.  I was 38w2d with her, was only induced because the OB was having knee surgery literally the next day.  So, I went in the night before, was given cytotech, started bleeding (which I now know is very common with cytotech), and had the section the next morning because of the bleeding.  So, really, not needed at all.

Anyone with VBAC induction advise/words of encouragement?  Oh, and my doula is out of town.  I knew she would be gone this week when I decided to work with her, but took the risk because I really, really like her.  So, Im waiting for her to hear back from her usual backup to see if that will still work out, if not, she said she will find me a great doula, but that's adding a bit of stress!!

 Thanks!

Re: Being induced on Thursday for gestational hypertension

  • Your first PB sounded TERRIBLE!  But your current OB sounds great and I think you should listen to him.  I was induced at 41 weeks for my VBAC and it was a successful VBAC.  He sounds like he will do everything he can do allow your VBAC and reserves c/s's for medical reasons only, so if he thinks an induction is necessary, I'd listen.

    Good luck!  You'll do great.

  • i wouldn't mess around with hypertension, sounds like your new OB has your and your baby's absolute best interests in mind (including your vbac).  it sucks that your doula won't be there with you but hopefully she will find you someone with their same philosophy etc.  how many successful inductions has your doc had with vbac?  that might help set your mind at ease or at least help you prepare
