We're not sure DS is quite ready for a big boy bed, but we are thinking of buying a new bed soon so it's in place when we decide to transition him. Among other reasons, I want to redecorate his room a bit, and I need a bed to put new bedding on

I have looked at beds online and saw one I liked at Land of Nod, but DH asked if there might be something similar out there that wasn't quite as expensive. (His job in the baby gear realm is to be the voice of reason on prices.) Even if we end up getting that bed, I think he'd feel better knowing that I looked around before deciding. So... any recommendations on good brands for twin beds for kids(especially beds that don't require a box spring)? Any recs on good stores?
Re: Good brands for kids' beds? Stores?
We bought DD's bedroom set at Ashley Furniture in Dulles. One thing to keep in mind is if you get a trundle bed, then it won't need a box spring and you have the added bonus of being able to put another single mattress in the trundle when they get older and have sleepovers. If you don't buy a mattress for the trundle right away, you may be able to use it for storage. DD's trundle is like a big drawer so I can store stuff in there until we buy the extra mattress. I saw single mattresses at Costco for $119 so that's probably what I'll get for it when I do buy one. You can also look at those beds with drawers underneath.
As far as recommendations, I would just say to check out some regular furniture stores in your area. A lot of places like Marlo, RoomStore, Ashley, etc. have sections for kids furniture.
