Pregnant after IF

How many bottles?

I registered for some Avent bottles that go with the pump that I registered for, and some other brands as well.  I feel like there are just way too many bottles on the registry.

Also, nipples for the bottles...what should I do about that?  Thanks.

Re: How many bottles?

  • I registered for 2 brands - Dr Brown's and Avent.  I registered for a couple different sizes in each brand. I think a total of like 8-10 bottles.

Come to think of it, I didn't register for any extra nipples.  Now I wonder if I should?

  • I think it's better to register for a few different brands b/c you neve know which your baby will like better. Also, the more bottles you have = less often you have to wash them. I am making sure I have a good day's supply so that I can just wash them all at night. I really don't want to have to worry about washing them after every feeding or so.

  • With twins, I go through 16+ bottles a day since I'm having trouble BFing. I'm constantly cleaning bottles. I've also misplaced a few here and there but eventually find them. Baby will eat every 2-4 hours, so I would estimate off of that and then have some extra.

  • How do you know what size bottles to register for? Sorry I am just starting to learn Smile

  • I just read this on BabyCenter

For newborns, buy a half-dozen 4-ounce bottles to start. Shift to 8- or 9-ounce bottles at about 4 months (or whenever your baby's growing appetite makes bigger bottles more practical) ? but save the smaller ones as backups.

  • I registered for 2 kinds - Dr. Brown's and tommee tippee, but I didn't do any extra nipples until I see what the baby likes.

  • Thank you for this post. This is one of the things I have been playing by ear and getting overwhelmed with. I inadvertently followed the Baby Center guidelines. I also didn't get extra nipples, until we know what the baby likes.

  • We returned the Dr. Brown bottles because they have so many flipping parts I just couldn't deal with all that and a newborn.  I lost it one day and had to go a simplier route.

We have 6 Avent bottles and I really wish I had 12.  I am constantly washing bottles, it's kind of insane.  Since we are almost ready to move to bigger bottles I'm not going to buy anymore, but when we transition to bigger bottles I will make sure I have 10-12 of those.

I haven't needed extra nipples, they come with size 1 nipples.  So I won't need more nipples until we transition to size 2.

  • I'd say it depends on what your plans are in terms of BFing.  I only bought 1 box of 6 Avent bottles (9oz) and it works just fine for me. I also did not buy any extra nipples. I am EBFing, but I try to give B one bottle a day because I'm pumping as well. I really don't even use all 6 of my bottles. Also, the 4oz bottles are useless... I say buy the bigger ones and just don't fill them up as much while LO is a newborn.
