Pregnant after IF

q from the still-trying side (esp if egg health or lining was your issue)...

Hi ladies,

I'm mostly from the Secondary IF board, and I will admit I haven't done my due diligence of lurking here to know if you guys hate questions from people still in the throes of IF.

I'm 41, had DS at 38 (a week from 39), and my AMH level was tested in November at 1.5, which they were thrilled with for my age. I had a c/p that month, and HSG in December with weird results making them have me do an SHG in January. Failed IUI (femara, trigger, luteal hCG injections) in February.  Second HSG in April to be sure I was open bc neither the HSG nor SHG were conclusive.  Another c/p in May, and another failed IUI (femara, menopur, trigger, luteal hCG injections) in June.  Was going to do another IUI (femara, double menopur, viagra suppositories, trigger, luteal hCG injections) in my late July cycle but they did a hysteroscopy and found Asherman's, scarring in my lining. Surgery almost 2 weeks ago.  Today at my post-op, I found that my AMH is down to 0.89, though they said they changed labs so it might not be such a sure plummet, but it doesn't sound good. I was on DHEA from Feb 1 to August 1.

I'm on estrogen for 21 days (middle of it now), then 7 days prometrium, then when the next cycle starts with my shiny new lining, we do the IUI as planned from last time, but we might be dropping the viagra suppositories because my lining should be good now.  But nagging at us is that darn AMH dropping down to .89 from 1.5.  As if I needed to feel my age even more.

We aren't doing IVF bc we are OOP, but it's very possible DH will be getting a new job around the first of the year with a company that has great IVF coverage. Unfortunately, if my AMH dropped that much since November, I fear it will be 0 by March! For what it's worth, we conceived DS spontaneously after 2 months of clomid from the OB and an initial consult with the RE.

I'm just writing to see if anyone here has had success after such a steep drop in AMH.

And if anyone had luck on their 3rd or more IUI, especially if you used menopur, and if you have multiples (I don't know why we are scared the RE wants to see 4-5 follicles, as 3 didn't work with 32.4M swimmers on the last IUI).

And if anyone had luck their first cycle after surgery for Asherman's.

Or any other insights? Thanks so much, I hope it was OK to post here!

(edited to change age to egg in the title!)

  • Sorry you are going through all of this.  What a rollercoaster.  It is perfectly fine to post here.  I wish I had something more than T&Ps for you.  Hopefully someone will be able to relate.  You may want to check SAIF too.  GL!

  • At 41, you are at the very end of your fertility based on age alone. I say that based on SART statistics, I don't want to be mean. Your AMH is also dropping. I would go right to IVF if it was me.

Thanks! I posted over there too, on your suggestions. I appreciate it!

I'm all too aware of that, but thanks. Believe me, every day, I am made aware of it in one way or another.

As I said in my post, we aren't going to IVF if it's not covered by insurance, which wouldn't be until next spring at the earliest.

So instead I was looking to hear if anyone had had success in the route we are taking instead.
