Trying to Get Pregnant

Maybe a dumb question, but how long trying.

My DH and I have been ready to try for a baby for about the last 4 months since we want our kids close in age. However, as you'll see in my siggy, I haven't had a cycle since my BFP, 19 months ago or so. So since I'm not ovulating, but DH and I have been having unprotected sex just in the hopes I'll spontaneously O, would you consider that trying? I'm just curious to see what people's take on it is.

  • I would say yes. It sounds like you are trying to have a baby, you just don't know if you are ovulating.

  • I would say yes too.  Regardless of whether or not you're O'ing, you're having sex with the intention of making a baby, to me, that's sort of what TTC means.

  • I've heard that  "if you aren't preventing, you're tying." With that logic, DH and I have been trying since November of 2010, however,  only within the past few months have I actually tried to determine when I Ovulate. Having some knowledge about my cycle, I now know that we have been trying at ALL the wrong times. Now, I can tell when I'm gearing up to ovulate and we are trying in the right window. So, even though we have been having unprotected sex since November, I would say we've only been trying for 4 or 5 months.

  • I'm with you, smz.  Since Carina was born we have never prevented, but I haven't gotten my first PP AF yet, so who knows...

  • IMO, I would consider this as trying. I might talk with a dr in the next few months though to see if there is something you can do to move things along. You are trying, even if you are not getting any results or ovulating.

I had been meaning to ask you if you had. I feel like the only one on here, and I'm frustrated with it. I'm still nursing round the clock, DS wakes 3-4 times a night and sometimes that's all that calms him down. I'm really hoping to start my cycles again, I hate waiting games. And thanks to all the responses!

  • Yep, that's trying.  I have ovulated once in the last 12 months, and we are trying.  So you are in the same boat we are.  Trying, without a body cooperating.

3-4 times a night?  Yikes, I'm sorry.  I hope he starts sleeping longer stretches, too.  I go 13 hours without nursing most nights so I'm actually surprised that AF hasn't come back yet.

Hopefully it does restart your cycles, that is odd that you haven't started yet.
