TMI question about boobies

Yesterday my nipple/areola area started to itch really bad. I was wearing a ribbed tank (w/o bra) and thought maybe it was the shirt irritating me. I changed into a bra and normal shirt, still itchy.

I googled and web md searched and of course the first thing that comes up is breast cancer. I've been putting my cortisone eczema cream on it. Any other solutions? Should I be concerned or make an appointment? It seems super premature to make an appointment after one day of itching...

Do you see a gyn/ob for this kinda thing? ugh, so clueless.

  • I would just put some cortizone/anti itch cream for a couple of days and then see if it goes away. Have you changed bath soap or detergent recently?

I thought about this too. I don't think so... totally weirded out and paranoid! I might be a slight hypochodriac. :)

  • Could you be pregnant?  That was one of my first/earliest symptoms...

Only if the Mirena failed me! My cycle is off now due to the Mirena, but my body has been giving me weird pregnant symptoms for the last few months. I keep testing just in case only to start spotting like a day later. Annoying.

It's only the right one too.

  • Happened to me a few weeks ago.  Itchy nipples one day, yeast infection the next.  I think it was related because once the yeast infection was control, everything was good.  (I had been sick with a fever a few days before, so I'm thinking that being so hot was the cause of everything.)

Good to know. I am prone to yeast infections, so i hope it is just something like that.

  • This happened to me a few months back, but underneath my breast.  It ended up being from it rubbing against the skin below.  They said it happens often in the warmer months.  I went to my dermatologist.  My OB/GYN said they didn't specialize in that.  She prescribed a topical steroid and some other kind of cream.  I used them both together and it cleared up within 3 days.  I say don't let it go too long.  I only made it worse waiting and it was itchy and painful.

  • Ive had this happen to me before. just at random times too.  I just think its dry skin from not having something between your skin and the shirt. ribbed tanks can be "abrasive" if thats the word im looking for.  just try regular lotion.

If you knew better, you'd do better.
  • Thanks, ladies. It actually feels a bit better today. I'll just keep up with the eczema lotion for now and see how it goes.

I'm a lot less paranoid about cancer now, so really thanks! :)
