We plan on buying a new crib (2 recalls, despite the fix it kits, does not sit well with me). I also want new bottles, and will need new pacis since I threw them all out. We also need new sippies as his have taken a beating.
B only had one issue on his mattress, and there is no evidence of it on the mattress, so I'm pretty sure we'll reuse it unless there is some reason I can't think of.
We'll reuse his pumpkin seat since it'll only be needed for 8ish months. I think it'll time out that we will be able to choose whether to get B a stand alone booster seat or buy new convertible seats, since B will be over 4 when the baby is 8 months (weight may or may not be an issue... we'll see).
We intend on reshifting our furniture around and using B's dresser/changing table, along with his bookcase, and moving our lazy boy into the baby's room. B will get a new bedframe and a matching dresser, along with DH's bookcase from when he was a kid.
Anything else that needs to be bought for baby #2? We'll probably need clothes as they'll be opposite seasons of each other, but that'll come soon enough.
Re: s/o second babies, what did you re-use?
Since ours are going to be really close together we are reusing a lot. Here is the list of what we have bought:
-2nd crib since Nick is still in his and will be for a while
-2nd changing pad (again, Nick still uses his)
-more crib sheets since we have 2 cribs now
-more changing pad covers since we have 2 now also
-a bouncy seat (ours was 2nd hand to begin with and stopped working, bought this at a garage sale)
-little lamb swing (our swing is more for bigger babies and I wanted something that the new baby could spend a lot of time in since DS keeps me so busy and hands on)
-2nd glider for Nicholas' new room (any chair would work but I found a really nice glider and ottoman at OUAC for $40).
-more A&A swaddle blankets
-double stroller? (havent decided on this yet)
-convertible car seat for Nicholas (he is still in the pumpkin seat and will be until baby #2 arrives)
-new diaper bag for me :-) (not a necessity but gotta have 1 splurge)
-2nd set of baby monitors
The rest of the stuff I will buy as needed (pacis, bottles, etc.) Honestly I will probably reuse pacis since Nicholas never used them much and I plan on getting some more burp rags (aka swiping them) from the hospital after the baby is born. Most of the stuff we are getting is because we are leaving the nursery the nursery and turning our office into Nicholas' big boy room so we needed stuff like new bedding for him, another hamper, changing pad, lamp, chair, etc. We still have our playmat, exersaucer, bumbo, boppy, baby bath, etc. from Nicholas (kinda embarrassed to admit that most of that stuff never even made it to storage but I suppose that for once my laziness works in my favor since its less stuff I have to pull back out).
We reused everything. I was shocked at how little we actually bought for #2. The only things I bought were things that I knew better what I wanted the second time around if that makes sense. For example, the video monitor. We bought a second one of those. We bought a ring sling because I didn't care for the Ergo infant insert, and we bought a double stroller. That's it. So in sum here's what we bought for a second baby:
video monitor
ring sling
double stroller
(and in all honestly I didn't really need the double stroller and the ring sling)
Off the top of my head we bought:
new pump parts and pump bottles
video monitor and two cameras
Beco Gemini
A used double maclaren (which we never use), a Joovy ultralite sit and stand, and a single Chicco umbrella stroller (for Disney World). Apparently I have a stroller problem.
I am thinking no to the double stroller. By the time this baby arrives, B will be 3.5. By the time we get out and about to the point we need a stroller, he'll be even closer to 4. He still likes his stroller... so while that concerns me slightly, I'm thinking by late spring next year/early summer, he'll be over it. KWIM?
I forgot about a second monitor. I will add that to the list, along with new pump parts. We didn't use a baby carrier with B because the one we had was awful. I'm going to have to research those because I can see their use with B running around.
I have a double jogging stroller that has never made it out of the garage.
What we do use a ton is the wagon. Now that Annie is a little bigger, when we are out with both girls we just bring the wagon. They can both see, it isn't a big deal to get them in and out and they love it. When annie was littler I would put her in the bjorn and sophia in the stroller.
I bought a few bjorns (all second hand) for the second baby because I had borrowed one for the first baby. That was about it for us.
I originally thought that we would need very little for #2, but as time has gone by, my list has grown. These are the things we are getting for this baby.
2nd monitor.
moby wrap since our sling was recalled and I intend to buy an Ergo when the baby is maybe 2 or 3 months old
a medela PISA breastpump since I had issues with BF last time around.
a new swing that plugs in since old swing took batteries and totally sucked!
new pacis, burp clothes, and bottle nipples
I intend to trade in our infant car seat the next time BRU has their trade in event since the exp date is apporacing within another year or so and we will most likely not hae an infant at the time. So, I will get a new conertible car seat for this baby at that time.
other than those big things, we are reusing our crib, mattress, stroller, car seat, bouncy seat, exersaucer, playmat, high chair and some unisex clothes.
