My little man is almost 13 months old and last night I decided to scramble up some eggs for his dinner. I didn't salt or pepper them, just 2 eggs, scrambled in the pan. Within 1.5 minutes of starting to eat them, he broke out in bright red spots all over his chin and also on his belly where some of the egg had fallen (he's a messy eater). I immediately wiped him down and kept an eye on him for respiratory issues or tummy ache. He was totally fine an hour later, the hives were gone.
Now - he's had baked goods with eggs in them and never had an issue. It also seemed like he had a contact reaction with the eggs, which I thought was a little strange. He's also had at least 2 flu shots with no adverse reaction. Anyone else with this?
His one year appt is next week, so of course I'll run it by the doctor, but I thought I would just throw it out there and find out what others experience has been with this.
Re: Egg allergy?
There could be a number of reasons why he doesn't break out when eating baked in, or the flu shot, etc.. He could only be allergic to one part of the egg (whites, yolks) also baking things tend break down protiens of certain foods.. So, probably the egg protien was broken down well enough to where he doesn't react in small amounts.
I would suggest avoiding all foods with egg in it, and get some benadryl to have on hand if he accidently is exposed to it. I would also suggest you get an epi-pen which only can rx by a doctor. Also, at the pedi appointment either asked to me reffered to an allergist, or have the doc do allergy testing (probably the pedi would just do a blood test) to see what the level of the allergy is and to see if he has any other allergies as well. I hope this helps!
GL with everything!
