Hi, y'all! I know that Grazy was able to update the board when our sweet girl was born, (Thanks, mama!) but now it has been two weeks and I'm ready to do the official announcement.
Larkin Marie W was born by c-section on August 2 at 7:33 am. The surgery was very quick - in the operating room and getting my spinal at 7:16. I never felt any pressure or anything at all! I actually asked if my OB had made an incision yet, and we heard our first cry less than two minutes later.
Larkin began squalling as soon as her head was delivered. She weighed 7 lbs 8 ounces and looks a lot like her daddy. She had a small cyst on her left tear duct and a birthmark on the back of her sweet bald head. The cyst has since resolved but you can see it in the photo below (if my PiP works). . .
My attempts at BFing in Recovery were worthless. It has taken the full two weeks for us to get nursing *somewhat* down, and I still can't say I'm 100% committed to continuing on any given day. (It is very hard!) Because we had trouble feeding at the beginning, baby girl lost too much weight - over 11% of her body weight - and had to be supplemented with formula. She also became jaundiced so we stayed an additional night in the hospital - four nights total.
My recovery has been completely easy-peasy. My incision looks great - not painful at all, and I haven't taken the Rx painkillers since our arrival home. I'm sticking to the rules, though and have not lifted more than 10 pounds - nor will I do so before 6 weeks, as advised. Tomorrow, we are two weeks old, and we will begin mall-walking a little bit. (It is too hot to stroll outdoors, unless I wait until 3 am...) Also, I weighed myself this morning. When it was all said and done, I gained about 38 pounds while pregnant. I've already lost 29...whoa. (and yay!)
I am going to go ahead and remove myself to the SAIF board, but just want you all to know that I'm rooting for your successes and will lurk and comment from time to time. I am so grateful for the support that I've received here and on the IF board in the last (almost) four years. I hope you all have happy and healthy remaining days, weeks and months ahead.
