Both names are awful. Trepp makes me think of trepidation, and "trip" is a verb. Tripp is just a misspelling of a verb.

Just because Sarah Palin named her son Tripp does not mean it is an actual name. She also thinks she can see Russia from an island in Alaska by her house?!?!
Just say no to Trepp or Tripp. Poor child.

Trepp also makes be think of a disease or disorder.
I'm not crazy about Tripp, but seeing this name on the forum over and over have made me wonder if it's just the Palin situation. Was this a name before her? Is it a nickname for an actual name? I can't imagine what the longer and legitimate version is, but perhaps it's decent... I hope?

Yep - only she can get excited about names like this. Tripp is terrible. Trepp is absolutely God-awful. This cannot be serious.

oh and for those of you asking if it's a nn for something? I'm not sure but my mom ran into a girl I went to high school with and she just had a baby boy named Tripton. ugh
I'm always shocked when I see the responses to "Tripp" on name boards. I live in the deep South, where Tripp is a very common Southern gentleman name. It usually means "the third" as in George Hamilton Morris, III who goes by Tripp Morris. Maybe this is a regional thing because people online seem to think it is a strange new made-up name.
I know 3 doctors and 2 lawyers named Tripp. They are in their 40s-50s. I know 3 young children with this name and the 2 that I know that are my age are in medical school. It brings to mind seersucker pants and a navy bowtie. If you drive down any Bellevue or Main Street area packed with old Southern mansions, you'll run into several Tripps. It isn't at all considered a trashy or classless name down here. It is "suth'n uppa class."
Just thought I'd throw that out there for those who aren't familiar with it in other areas. Oh, and I'd use Tripp. Trepp is weird to me.
Here's a link to a name blog where they tallied Southern gentlemen's names. There were 4 Tripp's.

But no one in the south uses it as a name on the birth certificate, it's always a nickname. I don't think anyone is questioning it as a nn, just as a formal name.

True. I think it would be ridiculous as a given name. Hopefully the OP meant is as a nickname for "the third." If not, it sounds wannabe pretentious.
Re: Trepp or Tripp?
Oh gosh. Neither. The double "p" does make it extra klassy though.
... yeah, I'm sorry, there's really nothing nice I can say about either of these. Tr- names that are actual names include...
Travis
Trent
Trevor
Tristan
Troy
or even Trace
I'm not even a fan of Trip(p) in that case. I think Trepp is just strange for any reason and it even sounds strange out loud.
Is Trepp short for trepidation?
Keep trying.

Sorry OP. I kind of like Trip for a dog.
I believe that they're both NNs that you give to a child who is a third (the son of a Jr.)
