Should I wait until I read the book to see the movie?
No. I found that having read the book before seeing the movie really made me dislike the movie. I didn't hate the film, but I thought it felt disjointed.
I had a really hard time getting into the book. I put it back down 2 or 3 times before I could finish it. Sooo slow till about half way through. I'm suppose to go see the movie this weekend.

I saw it yesterday and thought it was great. The book was better, yes, but the movie was still really good. I cried a few times.
She with the heart of stone CRIED?? Wow. Musta been good, then.
::snort!!:: This is exactly what I was thinking when I read Joyco's reply! Sorry, I'm no help, as I've not seen the movie OR read the book, and I'm neurotic enough that I won't see the movie UNTIL I've read the book, so... I guess I should get off my butt and read the book...
I thought the book was amazing. I don't really want to see the movie. For some reason, I've been totally turned off by the "branding" of the movie. The book is some heavy sh!t and I feel like the posters and such for the movie are not...i don't know...serious enough? Like it's positioned like any 'ol "chick flick."
I base all my movie decisions by rotten tomatoes ratings...it's officially fresh, 73%, so should be decently good.

Wow, I had the complete opposite experience with the book. I couldn't put it down!

Me too! It was the definition of a page turner for me!

If you are ever planning on reading the book, don't see the movie. If you're aren't set on reading the book, don't read it just to see the movie, kwim?
Book was 500x better, but it is so rare to find a movie where that isn't the case. Worth seeing. I also cried, twice.
MrsAJL, on the other hand, was a sobbing mess.
Did the book also make you cry? Just wondering because I can't really remember any "cry worthy" parts in the book, so I have a hard time imagining that I would cry whilst watching the movie.

Hey! Just b/c I don't like babies doesn't mean I'm not a sensitive little wuss! I did cry--the parts relating to children, in fact, got me all teary and choked up. Gawd, *I'm* a baby.
It is a lot different from the book, in quite a few places. I think the commercials are trying to make it seem funnier than it is. I laughed (out loud) a lot too, but I did while reading the book as well. I wonder if people want to see something funny and that's what the commercials are playing to? IDK, I just know that I'm glad I saw it, I enjoyed it. Even from the very front row. That gal playing Aibileen better get nominated for an Oscar. Loved her.
Agree with PP... the book started slow but once it started I couldn't put it down.
I loved the book. I loved the movie. I thought they stayed very true to the book and the few changes or things they left out, made sense for the movie and weren't really missed.
I though the casting for the movie was PERFECT.
I highly recommend the book AND the movie. Most of the theater applauded when it was over and it did make me cry (the movie, not the book).
I read the book and saw the movie. I actually really liked the movie! But I will say, because of the what the book is about, I'm a little disappointed that they are marketing it as a comedy. I also had a bit of trouble getting into the book though because I hate reading bad grammer and it starts off with the worst character when it comes to that.

Well that's only because, unlike someone else I know, I'm not dead inside.
