RENT. This musical was such a huge part of the late 90s for me. I saw it the first time in L.A. with Neil Patrick Harris and "Ricky" from my So Called Life. I saw it in NY. And I saw it over 15 times in Boston, mostly over one summer due to the student deal they had. (Yes, I am crazy.)
2. Which ones can you sing along with?
Well, RENT, duh. Phantom, Annie, Les Miz, Grease, West Side Story, Little Shop of Horrors, Chicago, Dreamgirls, Sweeney Todd, Evita, & Hair.
3. Which one do you dislike or just don't get what all the fuss is about?
I saw Cats once. I will never understand why it was so popular. I just did not get it at all. Same can be said for the musical version of Footloose. Why oh why?
4. Is there a musical you can't want to see with LO?
As a little girl, I wore out my Annie soundtrack record. Aside from RENT, this is my most favorite musical of all time. As a 5 yo, I was supposed to see it with the ORIGINAL Broadway cast (yes, I'm old). I flew out from Cali to NYC to see my relatives. On the day of the show, my grandmother thought the ticket was for her and took my place. (Don't get me started...sob sob). So while I saw it with my mom in L.A. a couple years later, and she made it up to me by taking me to see the 20th anniversary production in NY, I still remember that feeling of being left behind. (Can you hear the tiniest violin playing the saddest song?) Anyway, I just can't wait to take DD one day, and I hope she loves it as much as me.
1. What's your all-time fave musical? Wicked but I also loved Phantom and the Disney ones!2. Which ones can you sing along with?Wicked, Phantom, West Side Story, Mamma Mia,...and if you wanted to count Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and Little Mermaid I could sing to those, too, though that may be cheating since I've had most of those songs memorized since childhood? Oh, and Hairspray. And Grease. 3. Which one do you dislike or just don't get what all the fuss is about? I didn't care much for RENT, to be honest!4. Is there a musical you can't want to see with LO? Lion King if it's still playing. Would have loved to take him to BATB and Little Mermaid...who knows, maybe Beauty will be revived but since LM died a quick theater death I doubt it will be.
