Food Allergy

any other FA kiddos have issues with shots?

both of our boys got shots on Friday.  J had his MMR and chicken pox (okayed by the allergist before we gave them due to the egg content).  His skin broke out quite a bit more than normal- but we were prepared for that and dosed him with benedryl over the weekend and the rash was looking better today.  B got the last of his 2 months shots- HIB and prevnar.  His eczema also flared up.  From what I've found on Google- neither of those vaccines have egg protein or milk (his 2 suspected allergies and what I've elminated from my diet).  One of the vaccines does have a soy protein.  I haven't cut soy from my diet and his skin was doing ok prior to the shots and I woud think that it was a minimal amount of soy in the acutal vaccine...my pedi's office is no help on this one and refers to the allergist who won't help because B isn't a patient of theirs until October....Have any of your kids reacted to shots?  I guess it could be a conicidence- but I've been so careful with my diet and because of J's allergies and skin issues we use all safe/fragrence fee/low allergy products in our house.

Re: any other FA kiddos have issues with shots?

  • there are so many preservatives and chemicals in vaccines, he really could be reacting to any of it.  fa kids are more sensitive.  my son is recovering from a severe vax injury and i'm on a lot of vax injury forums and groups.  it seems like a lot of kids are reacting to anything with herpes (varicella) and prevnar lately.

eta:  I am also of the opinion that food allergies and vaccines are related.  My son had a milk sensitivity before his severe vax reaction, but that was it.  After his injury, he has a long list of food allergies and chemical sensitivities.

  • Thanks- prevnar was one of ours.  I keep trying to look things up on google- but it's like finding a needle in a haystack.

It totally makes sense to me that it's all related.  Allergies, eczema and asthma are all immune system issues.  Vaccines effect the immune system...it seems logical that it could have some pretty adverse affects if given to the wrong kiddo.  I've actually been doing some research on your blog over the weekend (hope that's ok!).  Both kids are following a similar pattern and I have yet to find a doctor that can give us any actual answers- we're just treating symptoms.  I have a lot of homework to do and doctors to talk to before his next round of shots.
