Two Under 2

Anyone here have 3 kids?

I know that this board is for 2 under 2, but was wondering if anyone here has three kids or if there is a board for that?  How old are your kids and is your life crazy with three or have you established some sense of routine?

  • This is baby #4 for us!!! We have a 5 year old and we are also going to have 3 that are 3 and under.... busy busy!! :P

We have a routine with our 3 boys! They are 1, 3 and 5! I feel like there was a bigger adjustment going from 1 to 2 then from 2 to 3.  We don't let the challenge of having more kids stop us from adventure.  We love to travel you just have to be prepared and always think ahead.  Everytime you add a new life there is chaos until you hit your stride! It is so important that each person has special time.  I love the busy pace of our life.  I find that being as organized as possible is very important.  My 3 year old and 5 year old have chores they help with and I encourage my 1 year old to help just like his big brothers. They love and help each other so much makes me feel so proud and blessed!  There are times that are challenging but I think they help me to be a better and more calm parent!

  • I have 5 kids; almost 6, 4, almost 3, 18 months and 2 months.  I have always had a routine, even with one child, and we just adapt the routine each time we add another child or something changes in the family (i.e. starting school, activities, sports).  Without a routine and a schedule I can' absolutely say that our life would be chaos.  That said there are changes some days, and you have to learn to roll with the punches so you don't get knocked out Smile

  • Wow, I am impressed that you ladies all have 3 or more and they are all so young.  I don't know many people it seems with 3 kids, so nice to hear that it is manageable and that you are all still sane...lol.  Any tips for keeping things manageable, especially those of you with more than 3?  Do you have alot of outside help and is your husband home alot?

  • I have three.  Life is crazy, but fun.

You get used to the hecticness after awhile, and the kids must learn patience.  And yes, a routine is a very good thing.  :)

  • 3U3 here.  Like the PPs, having a routine helps, but so does having the ability to roll with the punches when days get out of hand (which definitely happens).  My DH is home evenings and weekends, which is a big help, and my ILs are nearby and help out occasionally with babysitting so we can have a little break, or to take a kid or two off of my hands for a bit to ease errand-running.

  • I am pregnant with #3 too! :) My kids are almost 3, and 19 months. There will be a 27 month age difference between #2 and #3 (there was only just under 15 months between #1 and #2).

I work full time, and DH has two jobs at the moment.  We have an au pair who takes care of the kids while I'm at work, I do the "morning routine" and then go to work and pick up right before dinner to do the "night time  routine" with the kids.  I do think that having someone in our house helps a lot.  There is no packing the kids up and dropping them off in the morning, and having to pick them up at night.  I have 1 in school and 2 in Preschool so during the school year I just prep their stuff the night before so they can just walk out the door in the morning.

I also have the kids help out A LOT.  The older ones (including the 18 month old) all put their clothes in the hamper at night, and in the morning.  The older three get themselves dressed (I pick out their clothes for the week on the weekend), and they all clean up the playroom, and clear their dishes to the sink after meals.

Our general motto at home is "don't put it down put it away" because once you start letting things go they snowball.  I make a point of cleaning one room in the house completely each night after the kids go to bed, and do at least 1 load of laundry.  It really helps to have a place for everything, The Container Store is my best friend!

  • Currently pregnant with #4.  Life with 3 seemed to be easier than adjusting to life with 2.  DD#1 and DS were so eager to help and loved on their little sister so much, fronm the beginning.  They were also able to play by themselves if needed while we took care of the baby.  Now that DD#2 is almost 19 months, she is starting to play with them more and they love it (although there are the odd moments of her not playing the way they want her to).

Thank you, thank you!! I love this post! Big Smile

We are pregnant with #2, already talking about #3 and considering a 4th, although that will depend on finances... A lot of people think we're crazy (to have so many so close together) so reading this post really put a smile on my face today!
