Pregnant after IF

Blood work at first OB appt?

I was released from my RE last week and have my first OB appointment tomorrow. I just realized that throughout the last almost 10 weeks, my RE never told me my P4. I'm supposed to stop progesterone Thursday at 10 weeks, but I'm nervous. I also need my TSH checked. Does the OB normally check these things? Or do you think they will if I ask? I've already got my "I leak 6grams of protein on the regular" speech ready for my peeing in a cup, but I'd like to ease my mind with blood work too!

Re: Blood work at first OB appt?

  • Yep, my OB does bloodwork. A lot of it. I believe progesterone is in there, but ask for the specifics. Good luck!

  • Thank you! That makes me feel better. I'm scared 10 weeks is too early to be off progesterone so at least I'll know what my level is :)

I was off at 9 weeks with my first (and only stayed on longer this time because I was bleeding). At 10 weeks you are in great shape! It will be just fine! But lord knows it is scary to go off of it, I know!

  • My OB always checks progesterone at the first blood draw, since he specializes in seeing women with recurrent losses, but I don't know if most OBs do. He does not check TSH regularly though, and I had asked for it since I have a family history.

I would just ask to make sure those two are included since they'll be drawing so much anyways! GL!

ETA: I was so freaked out to go off the Prometrium since my P4 was so ridiculously low (in the 7's at 4 weeks, and never above 19 in the first 12 weeks) but it all worked out just fine! The placenta definitely does the job, although it is so scary to stop the meds!

  • Yup, had lots of b/w done at my first OB appt.  But I think I had more done when I began IF testing.  Not sure what it was all for though....guess I should have checked...haha!  I stopped progesterone at 10 weeks.  I even called my RE to double check that they said 10 weeks!

  • Thanks so much girls. I feel so much better. I don't think I'll feel completely comfortable until I'm holding my little one, but I'm starting to feel a teeny bit calmer!

  • My OB ordered tons of bloodwork my frist visit - I was surprised, actually.  I was already off my progesterone by that time though and didn't even ask what my P4 was at that point.

  • Yep, I had all that (and more!) checked in b/w at my first OB appt.  Definitely mention the TSH b/c she didn't have that one on there but I brought it up and she was fine adding it to the list of tubes!  :)

I was nervous to stop also, my OB DID NOT do a P4 at my 1st appointment and said that it is not routine! He would do it if I was wanted but he wasn't concerned. So if it will give you piece of mind ask for it!
