Upstate NY Babies

Pacifier question

If your LOs took a pacifier, can you help me?  Gavin never took one.  Riley loves to suck on her hands, so I thought she was going to be a pacifier baby.  But, we've offered her three different types and she gags each time.  I'm not set on her taking a pacifier, so I'm not pushing it.  I'm just curious is the gagging is normal when they're little or if there's a certain kind of pacifier that newborns tend to like more.  Thanks.

Re: Pacifier question

  • The Soothies were the only ones Rosie liked. She would make the funniest faces if you tried to give her something else.

  • Tyler was a paci kid, bri never took one.  Never had any gagging.  Did you get newborn ones?
  • When N was teeny she acted like she gagged on some of them.. she gags on a LOT though. We finally decided she likes the Mam ones the best but she still doesn't take them like Eve did.

  • We received a few packages of Soothies, Pampers (I think), Tommee Tippee and Nuk. The only ones she would take were Nuk, even still. No gagging though, all this kid wanted to do was suck.

  • Soothies were the only ones T has ever used. We never really pushed other kinds and had kind of planned to use that kind anyway plus it's the ones the hospital sends you home with too, so we had a couple extras.

  • Stella was a sucker from day 1 and used the soothies.  After a few months we tried Tommee Tippee pacis and she used those until about 6 or 7 months.  She never gagged from them though.

  • Evan wasn't a big paci user either, but the only one he ever liked was the MAM brand. He also had an Avent one that he would take sometimes.
  • Thanks, ladies.  We do have newborn ones.  I'm not too worried about the pacifier issue right now...but I just wanted to see what others have used.  Thanks!
  • Evan used the Nuk...still does for bedtime.

    Andrew refused to use one....
