Need major help (long) - MSPI and soy free

Hunter is MSPI and has reflux. The pedi and GI want him off soy and milk until 1 year and then introduce it slowly. I have been soooo nervous about giving him anything and messing up. He mostly gets fruit and veggies.

So for breakfast he gets apples, pears, peaches. I haven't introduced anything else because of guidelines and his reflux.

For lunch he is getting a stir fry (sweet potatoes, squash, zucchini, and green beans.

For snack, fruit listed above.

For dinner, I found noodles he can have and he gets a protein of chicken or meat cooked baked. And veggies, another stir fry usually, regular potatoes, broccoli, califlower, carrots.

He eats almost the same thing every single day. In the last couple weeks, his intake has increase. And he is still on 28 oz of formula.

So my daycare was on vacation, so my gf watched Hunter Thursday and he didn't poop for her. DH watched DS on Friday and didn't tell me he didn't poop for him. Hunter usually poops twice a day. So when my gf told me he didn't poop I figured he would make up for it Friday. I never asked DH and he never told me. So Friday night, Hunter who usually STTN, was up for 2 hours screaming out of control. We got him to sleep, but had no clue why. Well, I found out yesterday I think he can consipated. He had 4 explosive poops. And then one more today. So I don't think his system can handle what I am feeding him.

So now I am trying to add more into his diet. Please any help you can give me. What are you feeding your MSPI and soy free baby, so I can add it in.

Thanks in advance. Sorry for this being so long.

  • Have you introduced wheat yet? DS is dairy and soy free too. I have made pancakes that are dairy, soy and egg free (bc I had an egg allergy when I was younger I wouldn't be suprised if he has one too). I froze a batch of them. Also I found bagels that are free of those allergies too. I also give cherrios for snacks. He gets pasta or noddles a couple times a week at dinner too. I am looking for suggestions on this too!

  • I just went to the grocey stores near us with a list of products that he can eat...they only had one product, but all those stores are listed on their website.

  • I'd try introducing more fruit - blueberries, raspberries, prunes and apricots are good for pooping.  Avocado for more healthy fats.  You could try eggs at his age (I think it's the yolks first and the allergy worry is the egg white - that won't help with constipation though.  Oatmeal?  That's not dairy or soy, but he doesn't seem to have many carbohydrates in his current diet.  Does he get any liquid in addition to his formula?  He might need more water for hydration with all of the solids.
  • I would try more fruit....he gets avocado from time to time. I thought eggs was after a year that is why I didn't try it. We have been trying to give him water since 9 months, he doesn't care for it and barely takes sips. But thanks for the tips.

  • Not sure if you have a Whole Foods near you, but I just tried Amande almond milk yogurt with DD this weekend. You can also try the So Delicious coconut milk yogurt. I know Amande is soy free, and I'm pretty sure the So Delicious is as well. We also eat a lot of hummus. DD either eats it with pita bread, pretzels, carrot sticks, or cucumbers. She has also been known to dip her green beans and whatever else is on her plate in the hummus. She can't get enough. Have you introduced any meats? We do the Hebrew National hot dogs and bacon to get some fat into DD's diet. She also loves the Tyson chicken nuggets, but I"m not sure if they have soy. DD loves spaghetti, although that may irritate your LO's reflux. You could do a olive oil and safe butter with garlic mix and noodles. I made that for DD and added some shrimp. She was eating the shrimp like they were the best food ever!

We have introduced chicken...and I am having issues finding safe butter. Every store that says on their site should have it, doesn't. Hmmm...hummus...Ill look into that.

Earty Balance has a dairy free, soy free spread and I think it is good. Be sure to get the red container for soy free. I can get it at my Kroger in the natural foods section and at Whole Foods. Tyson nuggets are soy free. Muir Glen organic marinaras are good. Boars Head lunch meats are SF, DF, GF. Daiya cheeses are safe. For lunch I like to melt Daiya on either pita or a spelt tortilla, BH lunch meat, and some Lemonaise - yumm!!

his meals are usually the following:

    BF: oatmeal
LN: Almond butter on chex cereal or bagel
DN: Pasta w/ red sauce or Tyson chicken nuggets and ians alphabet fries
    SN: Guacamole

fruits and veggies also, even though he rarely eats any veggies.

I found that avocados give him good BM's and they are good and healthy for kids. I make guacamole (avocado, tomato, onion, salt and lime juice)

    A few other ideas..

    smoothies
    so delicious yogurts
HeartSmart Bisquick (White Box) pancake mix
    Daiya Cheese
