Ok so LO is allergic to dairy and it has been a little over a month since I have cut all dairy out. He hasnt had blood in his stool for the past week or so but started it again a couple days ago. He is not gassy, fussy, he doesnt arch his back when feeding and his rash is completly gone now and hasnt come back. Is this normal? Or do you think I slipped up on something? Do you think its just from him straining to poop sometimes? I remember the pedi saying that with babies who are allergic to dairy it could happen that they still have blood in their stool occasionally when dairy is cut out, is this true? I am just worried again and hoping hes not forming an allergy to something else too.
Re: allergy?
Ask your pedi if you should see an allergist and/or GI.. i know she's super young and most likely they won't do a RAST test on her (my allergist has done a rast test on a 2 week old once... but it's very rare). The GI might take a poop sample and test her that way.
is it a lot of blood?
I would try an elimination diet of the top 8 allergens and then reintroducing each one after 2 to 3 weeks.
Keep a food journal with her reactions. Usually if it's a strong reaction it's something you ate in the past 24 hours (but it's common if you ate something for it to stay in your system for weeks)
It could have slipped up on something also, it's so easy to eat something with milk. Make sure you avoid casein and whey.. that's a cows milk protein that is not labeled as milk. I would also avoid soy since more than 50% kids allergic to dairy are also allergic to soy.
hope this helps and i would ask about seeing a GI
