Moms of Boys..clothing?

I need tips for what boys prefer to wear?! I am hitting up the outlets next week and want to go to Carters. Right now he is super fat and I have him in 3 month clothes, mainly onesies or rompers. For the winter, what should I be looking at? Pants and shirts, or long sleeve/legged jumper type things, I assume they make long sleeve onesies for boys that I pair with pants? I just don't know what is comfortable. I had him in short and a shirt for the first time yesterday and I felt like the shorts were tight around his belly/diaper?

Any stores you suggest? What about Christmas/more formal attire for photos, etc?

  • When Jack was a year and under i dressed him in a combination of one piece outfits, onesies with cotton pants or lil jeans. And yes they make long sleeve onesies for boys. Jack wore a lil bit of everything honestly and never seemed to have a problem with any of it. I'd def. go for onesies over regular shirts cuz the onesies keep their bellies warm in the winter. As for Chrismas I've always had Jack in cute one piece outfits if I can find them...i always found cute outfits at consginment sales for cheap. good luck!

  • Around that age we did long sleeved onsies and pants.

For our Holiday/Fall/6month photos he wore corduroy pants with a knit pea coat from Baby Gap.  I loved that jacket (bought it before he was born).  Crazy 8 is usually good for holiday outfits too and I loved them for a while.  I still love some of their stuff every now and then for Ben.

  • For Scott I always went with the one piece things.  Once it got cooler we did the romper type thingys--long sleeves and long legs with the snaps.  I did this mostly because separate pants would never stay up on him since he was so little but I also thought diaper changes were easier with the one piece deals.  They also just looked comfy to me (nothing tight around the belly).  I'm trying to reuse as much as I can with Nate but I have a feeling those days are almost done b/c the clothes are going to be the wrong season since Nate is so much bigger than Scott.

  • At that age, Caleb wore a lot of Carter's 2pc sets. With soft cotton pants & long sleeve onesies. They even make long sleeve onesies with Polo tops, so they look dressier than plain shirts. I have always loved him in 1pc outfits, but they can be a PITA to button and he outgrew them more quickly than 2 pc.I don't think he wore a lot of bottoms with buttons (like jeans) until he was crawling. Regular shirts, not onesies, tend to ride up a lot which is annoying.

We got most of his clothes at Carter's, or at least Carter's brand. The BRU clothes never fit him well, his big head wouldn't fit through the shirts :)

I've always been a fan of sweater vests with a button up shirt/polo underneath. Kohl's has some cute outfits, or the consignment sales.

  • The majority of our clothes are from Old Navy. However, a lot of the stores don't seem to carry much for boys (not many stores do!). But if I could find a style I liked in the store and try it out I could usually order more online in a different color and maybe one size up for later in the season. Their long sleeve onesies and cotton or fleece pants wear great, at least they did for us. I have a lot of stuff left over from John that I can still use on Ryan 3 years later. Their online pants selection is much better than in stores.

I'm not thrilled that Carters changed a lot of their cotton pants to more of tight ankle bottom rather than a more boot cut style that they used to have. I'm sure they are comfy but I just don't like the look of them!

  • With Wesley, I dressed him in one piece outfits (rompers or whatever you call them) and long-sleeved onesies and cotton pants. I didn't use a lot of jeans when he was smaller because they just don't feel comfy for a squishy baby IMO. I LOVED (and still do) Carter's winter sets...especially the ones that came with the fuzzy jackets or vests. :) Good luck!
  • I did all onesies/pants, onesies/overalls or one piece outfits until he was over a year old.  Until he could walk, it was not comfortable looking to have him in separate shirt/pants.  Now I do not really ever put him in onesies (too tight in the crotch for this heat!).

Nice outfits, we do an applique or smocked longall/jon jon and a onesie, turtleneck or peter pan collar shirt.

  • Well, I think I may be alone here but ever since around 6 months I have had Dylan in shorts/pants and polos/t-shirt separates.  My husband and I despise buttons and onesies have just gotten too annoying and it's just too hot.  Plus, having him in separates makes checking for poopy diapers a lot easier. ;)

In the winter though, when he was around 3-5 months..we did long sleeved onesies and pants (jeans, cords and cotton pants).  Carters is a big fave, my MIL is obsessed with RLP and she buys it pretty cheap at Macy's and these are my absolute favorite separates to put him in.  We got a lot of clothes from the grandmas and they liked to shop at Janie & Jack (but their stuff ran too small and he outgrew it really quickly though so they stopped buying there bc they could never get it right).  I love Gymboree and Baby Gap as well. IMO Cary Towne Center has the best selection in those two stores.

For sleeping we like the 2 piece separates that Target has (Carters).  They are really cute and thin soft cotton, so for nighttime its comfy for him when we have the fan on.  For winter, we love long sleeved footed pajamas with ZIPPERS (lol) from Carters.  They had a ton on sale this spring, so I bought larger sizes for this winter.
