2nd Trimester

How long has m/s lasted for you?

Hi. I'm currently still in my first trimester but thought I'd post here an see what responses I'd get. I'm desperate!! I am 11 weeks and nothing has been working for my nausea and vomiting. Well zofran had been working up until yesterday . Just want to know how long you had m/s for?

Re: How long has m/s lasted for you?

  • I was one of the "lucky" 2% who had hyperemesis (severe nausea & vomiting). Zofran did NOTHING for me. I was nauseous 24/7 and threw-up daily until 16 weeks when the nausea suddenly stopped (unless I don't eat regularly). I only throw-up when I first wake up in the morning, but everything is much more manageable now.

I remember that around 11 weeks my m/s actually got a lot worse. :/

  • I last threw up during my 20th week.

Just regular plain "morning sickness" - not hyperemesis.
I was prescribed Phenergan (it didn't work), but never the Zofran.

    Everyone is different...
As in, just because it lasted "forever" for some of us, doesn't mean it won't be over tomorrow for you.

(Mine also got worse at 11 weeks... as a previous poster said.)

  • I am 14 weeks and still vomit in the morning, however it is not every morning....about 5 mornings a week.
  • I was on a zofran pump until a little after week 18. Sorry, it was a nightmare, but now it is completely gone.

Me too lol. I still get sick and am still on medication :-/ I was in and out of the hospital the whole entire first tri-mester, had week 14 where i didnt get sick at all and thought it was going away, but it came back :-/   And I'm with the above who it's just more manageable now. I don't know if it's because I'm used to it or just figured out what slight triggers are.  If i dont eat something within being awake for 5 minutes it's guranteed that my day is going to be sucky lol.   Just make sure your not getting dehydrated, I hated having to go in and out of the hospital and doctors and being jabbed all the time  but water made me sick :-/

  • I have zofran and phenergan...most days one of them works but then again I do at times have my bad day... The last 2 days have been pretty awful and I'm 15 weeks....But don't get me wrong...I do have very good days but I do still get sick at least 2-3 days a week and when I'm sick I'm non-stop sick for 24 hours...
  • I am over 14 weeks now and I am still suffering from it.  Sorry.  I'm sure that's not what you wanted to hear.  I can't seem to stomach much of anything.  I try to for the sake of my LO and to appease my FH but I just can't do it. I talked with a lady who was (at the time) 20 weeks and she said hers lasted till 16 weeks.  I know it's rare but some women have it all 40 weeks, again, I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

    Hope you feel better soon.

  • Ive been on Zofran since week 6 after two short stints in the ER. I'm currently just about 18 weeks, and it's getting better, but I'm still not 100% by any means. It comes and goes.

  • I still take Zofran 3-4 times per week. About once a week the nausea is just too strong and I throw up.

  • My m/s was the worst from weeks 8-12. Since then I have maybe thrown up 3 times (once was actually b/c I was laughing so hard, so I don't know if that really counts).

Hopefully relief is just around the corner for you!

  • Mine stopped  stopped around 13 weeks (it was pretty bad from 6-13 weeks- I was on Reglan which didn't help at all). I've thrown up once since then, but the last 2 weeks I've felt mostly back to normal- knock on wood. I hope you feel better soon!

  • I woke up day of my 15th week(this week) and BOOM!  It was GONE.  I have felt some queasiness, but it is all pretty much gone and i feel kind of normal.  Just get tired faster.  It's kind of creeping me out, like something is wrong.  The m/s was kind of reassuring.  LOL

This for me! At almost 25 wks, I still need zofran in the mornings. I am so used to it now, and it is not nearly as bad as 1st tri., hang in there!!

  • I was battling nausea and vomiting up until now and im 17 weeks but Zofran has been my savior and they upped my miligrams so that could be why! Im sorry it isnt working for you right now, my doctor also said taking vitamin B6 helps too but of course you should consult with your doctor before taking it. Another thing that helped me was ginger ale (try and get ones with real ginger) and sucking on peppermints. Hope you start to feel better.

  • At 13 - 14 weeks, my m/s went away. I still have to eat regularly though, or else I start to feel bad. I was like you, desperate for relief around 11 weeks, but thank goodness it went away. I was on Zofran at one point, around weeks 7 and 8, but I had horrible constipation and it just wasn't worth it. I'm sorry it's still going on for you - nausea is nothing short of misery. There's hope though, and you're probably close to the end. Hang in there!!

  • I had some food aversions and nausea in the beginning but had full on sickness for two weeks...week 14-16. Then it subsided, thankfully. I do still get nausea in the mornings (about an hour or so after I wake up) maybe 1-2 times a week. And I'm definitely more tired than I was pre-pregnancy. Other than that, I'm feeling great!

  • I had very light MS in first trimester, with one really horrible week where it wouldn't quit - for that week, I just made sure I always had saltines or access to carbonated water, that seemed to settle my stomach.

    Also,

    • Don't go hungry
    • Eat when you wake up!
    • Stay hydrated
  • This is exactly how I was feeling at 11 weeks. My doctor even sympathized with me, I would just go there completely green and weak and with bags under my eyes! He told me I could take Drammamine but I suffered through it. I am 16 weeks now, and at around 14 weeks it started to subside dramatically, I was still throwing up and nauseous at 13 and a half weeks and I started to panic. But now I will get nauseous maybe in the afternoon ONE day a week, but nothing at all like it was those first 13 weeks. Hang in there! I promise it will get better! When you are 4 months, you'll see a huge difference. I know I did!

  • I had m/s until 14 weeks, at 14 weeks and 1 day, it was suddenly better as long as I never let myself get hungry. It came back for a few days around 16 weeks, but now, as long as I don't get hungry, I don't throw up!

  • Mine lasted for my ENTIRE pregnancy.  I can remember having to take my Zofran the morning I was being induced!  I lost about 15 lbs the first 3 months of my pregnancy and ended up only gaining a total of 17 lbs.
