Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Mom's with other children and new baby...

I  have a question for those with older kids... I was wondering how old your LO when you first took them on an "Outing", such as the zoo or something like that.  Ihave an older DS and I want to take him out while the weather is still good but am weary about bringing DS#2 out...

Re: Mom's with other children and new baby...

  • DS was 20mos when DD was born.  We were at library story time when DD was 10days old.  We did short morning outings daily (weekdays - 2 or 3 hours) just about every day from then on.  DS needed to stay active and get some special stuff too.  I jsut put DD in the moby anytime we were out.

  • We are venturing out this week. DS is 19 months old and DD will be 3 weeks this week. DH has been home and taking DS out (and DD was in the hospital last week), that's the reason we haven't done it earlier. DH goes back to work tomorrow so we will begin our new routine! DS HAS to get out of the house at least once a day so staying in just really isn't an option.
  • I have been wanting to do this as well and the only thing that is stopping me is the heat.  There is so much I want to do with DD while on maternity leave but it has been over 100 degrees for a couple weeks here in Kansas.  I wanted to take her to the carnival Friday but it rained.  It hasn't rained in ages so of all nights to do it.  I guess it would depend on their ages and I only say that because I think I would have trouble going on a very long outing alone with mine.  Otherwise I say go for it!

  • We have done some outings with DD and DS already, she is almost 3 yo.  I did not do any outings though without DH.  He goes back to work this week, and I am not planning on doing much out and about.  Luckily, he goes in at 2pm and I can take DD out to do our thing before he goes to work. when his schedule goes to days, DS will be closer to 2 months and I might have a better handle on being alone with the two out and about at places like the zoo, library, etc...  Where I live is over 100 degrees right now, and the heat just makes it even harder.  Lots of art projects at home, and thankful preschool starts Sept 1 for DD.

  • We have done lots of little outings all along but we did an amusement park geared towards smaller children for dd this weekend. We were gone from 8am to 930 pm including travel time. It was hot but we kept DS shaded and lightly dressed, fed more frequently to avoid dehydration because he was a little sweaty and the day went great. Go for it!

  • I want to say DD was two weeks the first time I took them out in public by myself (grocery shopping). She was two days old the first time I took her out alone, though.

I see no reason to stay cooped up inside as long as proper precautions are taken (stay away from sick people, don't let strangers touch baby, etc.).

  • Well, we went back to the hospital when she was 2 days to meet with the Lactation consultant and then we went to Target.  My daughter is 4 weeks old and we have gone shopping a few times, we took her to the state fair, zoo, and to story time.

  • thanks ladies....i think we will try the park for a little bit this week. Also when DS#2 is about 6 weeks old we will be going to an amusement park for their cousin's birthday so I just wanted to get some feedback.  :-)
