TTC After a Loss

I don't know what to do nttcalr

I have a bit of a dilemma. I start my full time teaching job on Monday, but I have not officially quit my part time job yet. My part time job is similar to a day care, we offer 2 hours of child care for parents who use our workout facility. The problem is that my boss is requiring me to work either 2 weeknights or 1 weeknight and 1 weekend day. Last year I worked 1 weeknight and then as needed on the weekends. She is not willing to do that this year as I was the exception to the rule last year.

So I guess my question is would you continue the part time job or just quit all together?

  • I would quit altogether, unless you absolutely need the money from the job. That's just me. I'm a stickler for all the time off I can get though, lol.

  • I'm a teacher as well...nights and weekends are precious as the week is a crazy hectic time!  I'm impressed you can do childcare in addition to teaching...that's a lot on your plate!

Could you try and find a different part-time job?  I know that is probably inconvenient and you would have to start at the bottom of the totem pole at the new job, but maybe that would be a way to get the schedule you want.

If you can't do that...then I would say forget it all together. That's just my humble opinion though...I'm always exhausted at the end of the day.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!!

For me, it would depend on a couple of things: do you need the extra money or is it just extra play money? How demanding will your teaching job be? How long is the shift that you would have to work at your part-time job?

If you don't think it would be too much on you, I'd try to do both for awhile and see how it goes. GL on your decision!

    1. At this point the money will be just extra.

    2. This will be my first year teaching, I will have 12-15 fourth grade students.

    3. The shift at night is 5pm-9pm with a 15 minute break. The shift on the weekend would be 8am-2pm with a 30 minute break.

  • I would say if you don't need the extra money, to quit it...I am a teacher too, and  I know how much time and energy it sucks up! :)

  • If you don't need the money, quit.  You will be exhausted teaching and the last thing you will want to do is work until 9 pm on a week night. In all fairness though, you need to tell Them ASAP  and then work the next two weeks ( standard two-weeks notice) so they can find a replacement.  It might be a good idea to tell them you will be a sub in cse you want to work there during school breaks.

    PAL/PGAL Welcome

  • If you don't need the money, I'd quit especially since it is your first year teaching.  After you get the hang of things, you can see if you have the need/energy for a part time job.  No need to wear yourself out if you don't have to.

  • Like everyone else said if you don't need the money then I would quit. If it were me until you get your BFP  it would be nice to bank some money as long as you can without killing yourself.

As someone who is required to work every weeknd (My day's of are Thursday and Friday's) I woudl go for the night shifts. I hate that I do not get a lot of time with my DH, family and friends due to my schedule. Even the mundane Saturday's are missed where we ould sleep in together and do errands etc.

If the extra $$ is worth it I would at least give the two nights a shot. I think it is easier to push yourself a bit during the week and get 2 full day's off...Just a thought. Good luck either way.

  • ************************************Siggy warning*****************************************I worked 2 jobs for a very long time. It was nice to have the extra money. I quit when we started TTC thinking I would get KU right away. I didn't and I regret not having that extra money for 2 years. It would have helped a lot for saving up for a new vehicle or finishing our basement. Just my 2 cents. ETA: Siggy warning. So sorry!
